i.
Mommy was a wonder.
She was beautiful, with bell-like laughter and kind smiles that reached her eyes. You basked in her warmth, in her love. Mommy taught you that things float with the simplest whisper of a word, and that pictures move with the slighest flicker of a wand. Mommy taught you how to fly, how to disappear, how to be happy.
Simply saying, mommy was l.
ii.
Ma, however, was not.
Ma was cold, timidly pressed lips and half-smiles. Ma was words that were supposed to be nice, until it was followed by a whip by a belt to his body. Ma hated spells, and potions, and anything with the word 'magic' on it. Ma said they were toxic, and thise "witches" should burn for the curses they'd put upon this city.
So you stopped flying, stopped making things disappear. you hid everything mommy taught you because Ma's whips hurthurthurted you so much even when you didn't display your powers.
Slowly, slowly, Ma made you forget on what happiness was.
iii.
Modesty was a child.
An innocent one, with high-pitched cries and squeals for a laughter and Ma /hated/ her when she made a noise, so she sent you to look after her instead.
Immediately, you fell in love with her brilliant eyes, so pure and expectant. With Modesty, you can forget that the world is a cruel place for a while, for she the epitome of light, the epitome of goodness (just like mommy just like mommy just like mommy)–
despite your broken soul, you decided that she would feel the love you had been lacking.
iv.
And then there was Graves, who was something else.
He offered you the promise of acceptance, the promise of freedom (and you were suddenly reminded by those years when mommy brought you to fly, your body soaring high and you felt like a bird so freefreefree–).
Yet he was also telling you things that are dark, treating you not with violence like Ma did, but with harsh words and verbal sneers and goddamnit if that did not make you feel even more lonely than you already had–
He was a conflicting man, with contradictive words and actions and you were helplessly confused on which part to hold onto.
But he promised you acceptance, something you'd been longing, so you had no other choice but to comply to his commands.
v.
Tina was… brief.
But she reminded you of Mommy, of love and acceptance a long time ago, as she hugged you tight. For a flash second, you felt like you had finally found someone to lean on, to cry on.
And then she disappeared, and everyone forgot about the incident. everyone… but you.
So once again, you were stuck with dark thoughts and uncontrollable fear.
vi.
The black mass wa l.
it controlled you, took over your conscience with its actions, using your power as a tool of abuse while all you ever wanted was lovelovelifelove–
and when that man with the british accent found you, you wanted to tell him that you wanted out. that you needed out. That you had t.
Then there was Tina, warm and comforting. And you just wanted to stop and surrender to her tight hugs and comforting words–
But then Graves showed up, and you bursted. He used you. He harmed you. He nearly harmed Modesty.
So the black mass took over and it began to destroy.
And then there was pain. pain, at every direction, attacking the life out of you. You could see Tina, screaming with tears on her eyes. You could see the British man's face growing pale. You could see Graves angered.
But then the pain hit its climax, and you felt nothing anymore.
vii.
"You deserved so much more, Credence."
That, you already knew.
Didnt stop the world from ruining you anyway.
