i care about you baby, baby (more than you'll ever know)

A.N: Because Robin cared a lot more than Starfire ever realised way before Trouble in Tokyo, or Stranded, for that matter. Set after Sisters.

((More at the end))

Disclaimer: I own nothing .

He didn't know what made him say it.

Even hours later, after the moon had hidden behind the clouds and the stars had taken on an unearthly glow that could only been seen from the tower, Robin was dwelling on the ramifications of comforting Starfire after her sister had betrayed her.

He lay in his bed, cape and boots strewn along his bedroom floor, mask off. His blue eyes stared intently at the ceiling, almost as if he was trying to see through the concrete to watch over the alien he still knew sat on the roof, praying to her deity Vega and letting her hurt emotions out before she returned inside.

That was one of the reasons he had gone to talk to her: her mood after confronting Blackfire (which had appeared after an unexpected feat of power shown from Starfire that impressed him in all the wrong ways) had turned somber, and she spent the journey home quiet, save for the half-hearted response she would give to the rest of her friends when they enquired on her emotional state.

She had immediately set off for the roof once the team had arrived home, and the rest of the team had turned to look at him - they knew of the bond that Robin and Starfire shared.

"She's feeling a lot of hurt and rage right now," Raven had commented, her brow furrowing in worry. "It's not like her. I didn't realise she had that much of an attachment to her sister."

Robin then tilted his head; his eyes had been trained on his teammates' grim faces as he spoke.

"I didn't realise either. But Starfire has an attachment to anyone who she thinks deserves it. I bet Blackfire's treated her rotten from a young age, but Starfire was too eager to be accepted by her to call her out on it." He had let out a sigh, running a hand across his forehead. "I'll talk to her."

Cyborg and Beast Boy then nodded, turning towards the couch as they did so. "If you need any help comforting her, just let us know," Cyborg had said, leveling a sad look at Robin, "girl's got too much sunshine in her to become so sad now."

Robin had nodded grimly, and Raven beside him had echoed his nod before leaving the room in search of her own.

With that, Robin had gone to talk to Starfire.

It was odd to see how downcast she had become, but as Robin remembered Starfire's panicked rambling about being replaced by her sister, he knew it was right to tell her that "nobody could ever take your place", just to see the small, shy smile that had creeped along her face and warmed her heart.

He had not known where is compassion for this sometimes odd alien had come from, but he wasn't sure he wanted to relinquish it - she was too good, too pure for anything less.

His sharp ears heard Starfire's light footsteps past room and into hers, and not a second too soon - the weather had taken a turn for the worse and now a thunderstorm raged on.

Even so, Robin smiled to himself, marvelling over Starfire's ability to make him care too much.

A.N: Perhaps a little rusty but it's been awhile since I've written any fanfiction.

Next week I'm going to start a collection of AU's centering around different episodes of Teen Titans, and what would happen if the slightest thing had changed. If it's successful, I may do an Avatar: The Legend of Aang version also. And I have another Flash story in the works, too.

Until then!
