Disclaimer: I don't own NCIS...
Hello people! I was caught the end of Judgment Day (part 2) earlier today and I saw that heart-wrenching scene where our beloved Team Gibbs is sent to the four corners of the Earth. The only thing I could think of from that point on was how they said goodbye. There is no way they left Vance's office and went on their way without some sort of see-off. Here's how I imagine it would go.
"...terminated. You're going home."
"...moving...CyberCrimes."
"...reassigned...U.S.S Ronald Reagan."
They stood numbly as the new Directer gave out their new assignments.
"Gibbs." He said shoving three file-folders into his chest. "Meet your new team."
Later that night, the three of them, Abby and Ducky sat around a table at a local bar. They were all silent, despite the noise around them.
Ducky, for once, didn't know what to say.
Abby was afraid to speak for fear of bursting into tears.
Tony was in a mood; he didn't want to speak.
Ziva was unsure about breaking the silence.
McGee knew he wasn't one to complain. He wasn't leaving D.C.
Ducky gave one, long sigh. " Well, there is no use in trying to ignore it. This may be the last time in a while we get to do this, so let's make the best of it. "
Most of them smiled, and all attempted to. They danced and drank, but Tony and Ziva knew they would soon leave the party. They each had a flight to catch.
When both stood up, Abby's face fell. They said their goodbyes, the hugs, the kisses, the promise "to write and call." When they began to leave Abby began to cry. Ducky walked over and held her tightly, nodding to McGee. The younger man understood and walked outside with Tony and Ziva. They stood outside the bar for a moment, just being a team.
"This isn't goodbye." Ziva said her voice cracking slightly with emotion. McGee reached over and pulled her into his arms. She was his sister, and he hated to see her leave as much as he hated to see her cry. As he rubbed her back, Tony couldn't help but join in. They stood there for a moment, before stepping apart. Ziva wiped a tear from her eye. Tony put a hand on Ziva's lower back and gripped Tim's shoulder.
"We are Team Gibbs. The one and only Team Gibbs. He will never have anyone like us again, until he gets us back. And we will be back. Abs'll make sure of that. The Bossman won't let us go without a fight. Zee, your right. This isn't goodbye. Goodbye is permanentJust, farewell. "
Ziva and Tim nodded and smiled. "Farewell, then."
But, even though it wasn't "Goodbye," it still hurt as Tony crossed the street to his car, McGee turned left and Ziva turned right.
Three different people.
Three different directions.
One team.
So, that quote, "Goodbye is permanent, but farewell is only temporary." is from something. But for the life of me, I can't rememeber what. Actually, I think it is from number of things. But not originally from me.
Please, if you take the time to read this whole thing, please take three more minutes to review. It meets so much to any writer to find out either that they are doing amazing, or how to fix what they have been doing wrong. Plus, my birthday is coming up soon...
Thanks!
