Disclaimer: I do not own The O.C., I mean honestly, if I did I'd be rolling in cash and I'd spend my time doing television show owner type things. Also, no profit is made from writing this story it just gives me an outlet to get this damn story out of my head because it won't leave me alone. :D

Author's Note: When reading the story you might not know it but I am a Seth/Summer fan, I just got this idea and started to write it. You might also want to know that the point of view will change in later chapters. That's all you really need to know for now, so please, give it a chance. :D Reviews are nice too.

A Series of Tiny Mistakes

If Only I'd Averted His Eyes

Have you ever had that one night you wish you could take back? Summer Roberts certainly did. She'd lost what was essentially her life all because of one stupid mistake. She'd lost the love of her life, Seth Cohen.

Summer wasn't even really sure how it happened. Here's what she did know: She knew that she'd gone to the Cohen McMansion in search of Seth. It had been a rough morning because she'd woken up missing Marissa. Wanting to get Marissa off her mind, Summer was hoping Seth would be available for a movie or something. What she'd forgotten was that Seth was working at the comic book store for the better part of the afternoon. That didn't occur to her until after she'd entered the kitchen.

Ryan looked up to see Summer in the doorway. "Hey, uh if you're looking for Seth, he's at work." Summer's shoulders slumped.

"Yeah, I guess I'll catch him later then." She answered and turned to leave.

"Something you wanted to talk about?" Ryan asked. Summer's plan had been to politely decline and leave. If only she'd been able to stick to it. However, she made the mistake of turning on her heel to face him. His piercing blue eyes were filled with concern and Summer was at a loss for words.

"No, I just-I just- Tell Seth I'll call him later, okay?" Was how she finally managed to respond. Real smooth, Summer! Inwardly, she was kicking herself, she never had trouble verbalizing.

"Yeah, sure." Ryan confirmed. "Hey Summer?" He questioned. Once again she turned to meet his concerned eyes.

"Yeah?" She asked.

"If you ever need to talk, about anything, you know where to find me." He assured her before making his way to the poolhouse.

His last action left Summer staring at her shoes, somehow instinctively knowing she should leave yet undoubtedly feeling as though their conversation wasn't finished. Her relationship went to hell the moment she followed her heart over her head.
