The small, dark-haired girl giggled softly as she ran a hairbrush through his much longer, silkier white hair. She glanced at him as she did so. He didn't bat an eyelid.
Satisfied, she continued till she had brushed out all his hair. It took some time because the hairbrush was big in her little hands, but he didn't utter a word.
Now the real fun began. She bunched up half of the smooth, heavy silvery mass as neatly as she could to one side of his head. Holding it in place with one hand, she rummaged a wooden box for a hair tie, which she proceeded to loop around the long ponytail. Then she repeated the process on the other side. His face remained expressionless.
For a final touch, she gathered a bunch of colorful flowers and slipped them into the bands, so that it looked like his hair was literally held up with flowers.
Then she stood back and surveyed the result. He looked like an overgrown doll. "Perfect!" She exclaimed. He didn't stir, just remained where he was as little Rin walked back, grinning widely, to the village.
Rema, she thought, I did it! I did what you dared me to do! Laughing freely, she sprinted back home.
About an hour later, he finally got up, stretching lazily. His eyes flitted to the sky. It was sunset. "Kyaah!" Had he really been asleep all day? Scrambling to his feet, Inuyasha sped to the village, cursing.
His pigtails flew in the wind.
