This is just a small scene that popped into my head after reading the Son of Neptune
The Underworld
Inside Hades's Palace
Two hours after Polybotes's death at the hands of Percy Jackson and Terminus
Thanatos always looked out of place here in Hades's Palace, with his regal face, honey golden eyes, long black hair, his teakwood skin color and glimmering wings Thanatos looked he belonged in a Palace of Aphrodite... but alas Thanatos belonged here in the Underworld. It feels better to be free but I did quite enjoy not working for a change,Thanatos thought as he stood in front of Hades on his throne made of bones the second throne next Hades's was empty as per the time of the year.
"I take it those Demigods took their sweet time rescuing you, didn't they?" Hades asked from his throne as he studied Thanatos like a old classmate returned for a visit. "More or less they did but they still unbound me I'll give them that" Thanatos replied as he stood in front of Hades.
"They took their sweet time but still got the job done eh gotta give them some credit from that at least. But now..." Hades said as he stood up from his throne. Thanatos stared at Hades showing one of the rare moments of concern... well at least Hades's equivalent of concern, "they have my son" Hades said coldly as he stood.
"They'll get him back... Percy at least owes him that much" Thanatos replied to Hades as he watched Hades walk back and forth. "Yes, Percy Jackson is loyal I'll give him that" Hades replied as Thanatos watched his boss still showing one of his rare moments of concern. "And what of the other one... Hazel; you took her off the list I noticed. Is that wise leaving her on the realm of the Living like that, we both know eventually she'll have to come back" Thanatos asked wondering why Hades had done what he did.
Hades turned slowly to look at Thanatos then with an empty, plane face and voice replied "Thanatos I not what you speak of; I have only one child in the realm of the living whom has been kidnapped; all others are in their rightfully place." "I see" Thanatos replied understanding that Hades was choosing to simply not acknowledging Hazel's life on realm of the living thus allowing her to live through the 'loop hole' in the laws.
Hades began to walk away saying "alright then Thanatos you should probably get back to work with all those escaped souls. Oh and tell Charon to be ready for them and that he'll not be getting that raise."
But Thanatos stopped Hades before he completely left, "Hades one more thing." "Yes" Hades asked as he turned around to face his Lieutenant; "when I was being kidnapped I noticed that you personally tired to stop them stealing me. I didn't know you cared that much" Thanatos said with his equivalent of teasing.
"I just need someone to do your job, you've been doing it for almost as long as I can remember; and that is a really long time... get back to work" Hades replied as he moved on to do his duties, momentarily leaving Thanatos alone in the throne room of Hades's palace.
I am one of few people in any realm of existence that Hades considers a friend Thanatos thought as left the throne room wondering if he should feel honored or not.
