More Than You Know.

Disclaimer: I don't own Gilmore Girls.

It was a small bookshop. The cosy, welcoming kind. The kind in which the books weren't immaculately positioned and there were comfy looking red bean bags for people to sit on. The walls were covered in black and red paint. You could tell from looking at it the owner hadn't spent a lot of money on it. There were few places like this in Hartford. It was reclusive, probably a well kept secret amongst genuine booklovers.

Rory Gilmore loved everything about it. It was the perfect place to seek solitude. She had been going there everyday for more than a week. After going a month without reading she felt she needed to catch up. She needed to take a moment to breathe and get used to being herself again. Yale was still being sorted out and she didn't have much else to do anyway. Everyone was busy getting on with their own lives. So when she had some free time she'd come here, sink into a comfy bean bag and read. It was becoming a much loved habit for her.

After talking to Jess, she realised how little she actually knew Hartford and decided to spend a day wondering around the quaint town, in the process she coincidently stumbled upon this haven. So that was the reason she was here today. That and the fact that Lorelai had left her to deal with some sort of fatal catastrophe in the Dragonfly Inn, but she didn't mind. She was just glad that things were back to normal, or as normal as they could be for her. Stars Hollow was still as eccentric as it always had been, but she wouldn't have it any other any way. It was home.

Rory trailed her finger along the spines of countless books on the shelf like she had done so many times in the past week. As she wandered down the small passageway her eyes skimmed through the titles, stopping abruptly in her tracks as she saw the words 'Jess Mariano' printed on the back of a small book. Her heart skipped a beat. Oh my god, Jess! He did it. He really did it. She knew he would. She didn't doubt him for a second. It just seemed so much more real. Rory smiled a watery smile. Her heart was pounding in her ears. Seeing it on the shelves alongside with some of her favourite books almost brought tears to her eyes. Picking it up from the shelf, she turned to look at the back. Their confrontation was still vivid in her mind. She owed him so much. If it wasn't for his honesty she might still be living the so-called high life with her grandparents. She mentally shuddered at the thought. It wasn't that she was ungrateful; she appreciated what they did for her. She just couldn't stand their way of life any longer. Jess had helped her more than he'd know.

Walking towards the empty counter Rory took the current book off the transparent plastic stand and replaced it with The Subsect, and silently walked still smiling. Once outside she took her phone out of her bag and dialled a relatively foreign number; Jess' number. She brought the phone to her ear, thankful that the ringing drowned out the rapid thumping of her heart. Rory felt herself grow more nervous with every ring. Before she had a chance to hang up the ringing subsided.

'Hello?' She heard Jess answer. Rory took a deep breathe trying hard to calm her jittery nerves. Say something, she silently berated herself.

'Jess' she breathed. 'Hi.'

'Rory?'

'Yeah, it's me…..' She said relief flooding through her veins.

End.
