It was an impulse.
Too pull over and coax Sophia into the car. He didn't even really understand it himself. After all she wasn't pack. Not yet.
When she brushed past him getting into the car it was as if time slowed. His superior senses alerting to her presence and absorbing as much as they could. He inhaled her scent picking up everything. Diving under her soft lavender perfume and past her vanilla scented shampoo to reach it; that maddening sweet woman/child musk that declared her one of them, yet not quite. The brush of her long silky hair over his skin had been electric. She was a fire in his blood and it was all her could do to keep his cool. But he was good at that. Real good.
She settled into the back seat with Sean. He was watching in the rearview when their eyes met. He swelled with the trust and wanting he saw there. He would claim her in an instant if only she would prove her blood. Her half breed status could be overlooked if only she'd Change.
He stopped the car and his girlfriend was all over him in half an instant. Trying to practically climb down his throat. He opened his eyes and saw Sophia looking at him in the rearview mirror. All of a sudden he wasn't just going through the motions anymore. It was no longer his girlfriend's mouth beneath his but Sophia's tender trembling lips. His arms were no longer clasped around the well known but grasping at the mysterious. Their locked gaze was a connection he could literally feel twisting through the air between them. A naughty secret; something always unspoken but only the two of them knew. That while Sean was hassling her and his girlfriend was desperately trying to devour him; all they wanted and didn't dare have was each other. Then Sean got too pushy and he could see the discomfort and distress building in her eyes so he put a stop to it. He could use a substitute but Sophia wasn't like that.
As Sophia ran away and his girlfriend berated Sean he told himself that he'd never do this again. It was too cruel to both Sophia and himself to see what they both wanted and couldn't have; After all someday he'd be the Leader of The Pack.
