August 15th, 12:30 pm
The summer sun bore down on a young boy in a cloudless sky, in seemingly perfect weather. Meanwhile, a girl strolled along casually until she saw the boy sitting on a swing set. She had nothing better to do, so she decided to talk to him.
"Well, y'know, I kinda hate summer…"
He murmured while petting a cat, whose red eyes pierced the girl like talons. Suddenly, the cat leapt out of his lap and ran across the street. Noticing, the boy ran after it.
But what he didn't notice was the traffic light that switched to a screeching red.
A truck came out of nowhere and slammed into the boy. His blood filled scent made her cough and gasp for air, only to inhale the stench again. In the midst of it all, the haze of the heat laughed.
"This is all real!"
The light blue haze of summer faded away like it was a dream.
August 14th, 12 pm
It's strange, she thought. Yesterday, I had a dream of us in this exact park. The girl felt a familiar set of eyes cutting into her like knives.
A black cat stared up at her with bright red eyes. Dread rushed through her veins.
"Why don't we go home now?"
Without waiting for an answer, she led the boy away from the crosswalk. But in their hurry, the moment he stumbled off the sidewalk, the passing people looked up to the sky and shouted.
Iron poles rained down and pierced his body like butter. His screams of agony mixed with the gentle wind chimes rang throughout the city. In that horrible moment, the heat haze laughed again.
"This is the real thing!"
As her vision of his broken body blurred, she could've sworn she saw a faint trace of a smile playing across his lips.
Time and time again, they lived the same two days for decades, each time with the boy dying in some sort of unfortunate tragedy, and the girl could never figure out how to save him. But in a story like this one, there could only be one ending to the never ending summer days.
There had to be.
"Well, y'know, I kinda hate summer…"
Today was like any other in this nightmare of a world. He began to chase the cat across the road. But this time, instead of standing back and watching, she ran forward with all the courage she had.
She pushed the boy out of the way, and in that moment, the truck slammed into her. His eyes, filled with shock and horror, met her steely determined ones. Her limp body was thrown up in the air like a doll. Blood sprayed everywhere.
If the heat haze had laughed again,
"Serves you right!"
Then this would really be a normal summer day.
But it all ended today.
August 14th, at an unknown time
A boy woke up on his bed. And while stroking a cat, he whispered,
"I failed this time, too…"
