"Why is that you and I are always the ones that have to do this?" Greg groaned pulling his Denali out of the packed parking lot.
"Greg… its our job." Sara sighed, buckling her seat belt, before peering down at the sheet explaining their case was on.
"Sara, our job ended hours ago. We should be back in that party…waiting for the ball to drop." He all but whined, pulling out onto the highway. "Not driving to a stupid scene."
Hearing his childish tone, she let out a loud breath. "What the hell is with you and idiotic holidays."
"Idiotic holiday? What the hell are you talking about, Sara, this is an international holiday, its for everyone to celebrate."
"Whatever." She mumbled frustratingly, turning to look out the window.
Shaking his head, Greg turned up the radio. After that the only sound in the car was of music coming from the radio. The smooth tones of Frays 'Over My Head' drifted the pair into a comfortable silence.
"So Miss Sidle…" Greg slowly eased in a few minutes later as he pulled down a significantly empty road. "…what about this holiday don't you like?"
Turning toward him in her seat she narrowed her eyes. "You really wanna know?"
"Yes."
"Loneliness. Being alone."
The sincerity in her voice made his eyes grow wide. "Wait…" He barked, abruptly pulling off to the side of the road. "You've never had a new years kiss?"
Turning her eyes to the floor of the Denali, Sara shook her head. Her posture looking like that of an ashamed child who had just been reprimanded by her parents.
"I don't see how that's possible, not with a beautiful girl like you."
"What?" Her eyes grew wide, "You think im beautiful?"
"Are you kidding me? Your gorgeous."
"You think so?" She questioned, her head still bowed.
"Sara." He whispered, his hand reaching across the console to bring her gaze to his. Lifting her gaze, he finished. "I do."
Before she could realize her mind, body and lips were taken over as Greg pulled her into a passionate embrace. They pulled apart moments later, the sounds of fireworks jarring them from their fervent kisses.
Letting out a soft giggle, Sara tucked some hair nervously behind her ear. "Wow."
"Yeah." He stuttered, his gaze moving to the clock on the dashboard, it read 12:02. "I guess a Happy New Year is in order."
Bringing her gaze to the same clock, she giggled once more. "I guess your right. You think we should celebrate?"
A wide grin appeared across his face, as he eased back closer to her. "I like the sound of that. Happy New Year Sara."
"Happy New Year Greg." She whispered as their lips came together once more. The sounds of celebration still beating against the Denali's windows, as the two co workers celebrate in their own passionate way.
