A/N: My computer is dead at the moment, so this is written on my parent's computer. I don't really think that it's anything too great, but a little bit of inspiration hit me today when I was thinking about Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." So yeah, it's inspired by that.

Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts or "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings."

Namine bit her lip as she held her pencil to her sketchpad. Something wasn't right.

As long as she could remember, she was caged by the Organization. She was forced to do what she did best- place memories where they belonged, and to draw.

There was nothing more to this life, and she longed to go out into the world, more than anything else. After she'd attempted to do so several times, and was always caught and dragged back.

It was how it was meant to be- she was a nobody, not even meant to exist. This was what had kept her going everyday for the longest time, telling herself that she was fortunate to even be alive. But now, it seemed like it would never be worth it.

And yet he, also as a nobody, was allowed to be out there- doing as he pleased, doing whatever he wanted to, without a thought about who he truly was, or who he was before.

She envied what he had- several friends that would go to great lengths just for him, enough happiness to last him a lifetime, and most of all, freedom. Something that she had never experienced, and never would be able to. Not as long as the Organization had their way.

It was odd, how she felt about things. She loved to draw more than anything else, but when she was forced to do so, there was something wrong. Something empty about what she was doing. It was as if her passion was lost. There could never be any passion in the artwork that she drew here...

So where was it? She had been caged here as long as she could remember... yet she still had a love of art, as much as the passion was lost.

She heard a small bird tweet, and got up from her seat. She was allowed to wander around the mansion, just to never leave. She suspiciously opened the door, and in the hallway lay a tiny bird in a cage.

He seemed to be pleased to see Namine, as little space that he had in his cage. He hopped up in greeting, only to smack his head to the ceiling of the cage. Poor thing, Namine thought as she saw that he longed for freedom as much as she did.

And yet, seconds later, he began to tweet the most beautiful song that she had ever heard for an animal to sing. She was on the brink of tears when she heard the music, filled with such passion and joy, even though the bird was caged.

How was he able to sing such sweet melodies in a sorrowful condition?

She took the cage in her hands, and brought it back inside the White Room.

And the more she listened, the more she learned why the caged bird would sing.

It was the same reason why she continued to draw.
