A/N: So the paragraphs are broken into Jane and Maura's point of views, but I am telling you which one. That is for you to decide…I actually know whose point of view they are in but I want your opinion. So first paragraph and third paragraph are the same character and so on and so forth when you read you will feel the difference. But anyways enough of my ramblings read on and let me know what you think! Oh! One last thing this was inspired by Christina Perri's song Distance…actually I use some of her lyrics in my story… So I own nothing!
It was out there, the three little words. Those three words could not be taken back, she didn't want to take them back but that is what scared her that is why she was keeping a distance. She didn't want to lose her friend, but in the end right now she had lost her.
She had said those three words, the three words she had wanted to hear for so long. But yet the words scared her, which was now why she was keeping her distance. She was in love with her best friend and didn't want to risk losing that friendship…but she had lost her. With this distance she felt incomplete.
Sitting at her desk everything stood still how long could they go without talking to one another, they had avoided each other once before. More than once but they always saw one another even at crime scenes but this time was different, even at the crime scenes they no longer saw each other. Sitting back in her chair she pondered what she had said, those three words were said seventy-two hours ago but it felt like an eternity. She wanted her friend back she wanted the woman she loved back. But she felt it slipping further away.
It had been seventy-two hours since the words fell out, seventy-two hours since the last time she was happy. Sitting at her desk she felt a sickness inside of her, the best friend she once had was gone. The distance was growing, the pain was consuming. Sitting further back in her chair she looked up at the ceiling even that seemed a million miles away. Releasing a sigh she looked around and felt time stand still, she wanted the woman she loved back she wanted her best friend.
The distance was at one time only a water fountain trickle of water apart but now after ninety-six hours it was an ocean, the pain continued to grow. What if she loved me back kept hitting her; if she did she would have called you. Shown up at your door step…don't call it love.
Ninety-six hours the longest hours of her life, the once impenetrable cement that bound them together was now watery causing the bricks to slip away. Looking out the window the sunlight pierced through the curtains, causing her to think about her. It was love, no don't call it that. She argued with herself. How long could this go on?
One Hundred and Forty-Four hours, six days had gone by. This was ridiculous, she loved her but she had to keep her distance. She had to keep it up, but she was growing weak.
Six days, One Hundred and Forty-Four hours had gone by. It was insane, they loved each other but she had to keep her distance. She had to keep going, but she felt her walls falling she felt her knees going weak.
One Week. One Hundred and Sixty-Eight hours. Her eyes, her smile, her warmth it was love. No, don't call it that.
Finally seeing her…
She still looks so beautiful…
Walking towards the other…
Everything stands still…
Growing weak…
Distance fading…
Tears breaking free…
Arms outstretch…
Enveloped in warmth…
Eyes meet…
Moving closer…
Butterflies…
Lips meet…
Finally…
Lips break apart…
"I love you, too."…
The distance is gone…
