Of Goddesses and Men
Derek leaned back against the rocks on the beach and stared up at the moon. He'd been doing that a lot recently – staring at the moon. It was a bit annoying actually, but how could he not? His girlfriend was a goddess – yes, that's right g-o-d-d-e-s-s, goddess – of the moon. Now, normally, one would think "hell yes, I'm dating a frikkin' goddess" but alas, such was not the case that night. Because just ten minutes ago, he had been – ahem – enjoying Tianna's company, but then she had to go do her deified-superhero thing and save the world once again from falling into darkness. He sighed, frustrated. Well, at least she wasn't like those girls who think the most important things in the world are fashion and gossip. And hey, maybe it was just a one time thing.
The waves lapped against the sand rhythmically, lulling Derek into drowsiness. But a scuffle in the sand brings him back to full consciousness instantly. His muscles tighten as the sound gets closer; he wouldn't take any more chances after Jason and Mason.
Derek jumped up at and turned to face the intruder, arms poised for a fight.
"Dude, what's your problem?" Derek relaxed when he saw Collin Killingsworth standing there with a surfboard tucked under his arm, looking at Derek like he was a moron.
"Nothing, sorry, I just thought you were... You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
Collin cocked an eyebrow and laughed. "It's not like you were kidnapped by a couple of punk ass Evil Incarnate lackies who wanted to do in the girl you like and turn you into a soulless, hopeless monster."
Derek just stared at him.
"You... weren't... were you?" Collin asked, cautiously. Derek rubbed the back of his neck and nodded. "Huh. Maybe it's their initiation or something," he wondered aloud.
"You mean you were...?"
"Kidnapped with Jimena before we were actually dating and nearly turned into a soulless Follower of the Atrox... yep."
The two guys stood in silence for a moment. "So, does Jimena ever ditch you to go save the world?"
"All the time, man, all the time. You learn to expect it."
"Fuck."
