-2018 REVISION-
A Note from the Author
Hello,
I just wanted to take some time to explain some very important things about this story before it begins. First of all; I am not a historian nor do I claim to be. In fact, I'm pretty sure that most historians watch Spartacus and wonder what the heck the producers were thinking. This is simply a random fan story cross-over er, thing. It's strictly for entertainment purposes.
The next thing I want to touch on is, not only historical inaccuracy, but some slight character inaccuracy. This is a Fairy Tail x Spartacus cross-over that was originally requested. We both happened to be great fans of both Spartacus and the anime Fairy Tail. Two COMPLETELY separate and, in my opinion, entirely incompatible worlds. I have spent a lot of time on a Fairy Tail fanfiction that is still in pieces and hundreds of thousands of words; frankly, I needed a change in scenery. It only seemed right to combine two of my favourite shows into something crazy. Keep in mind though that I am basically taking my F.T rewrite and swinging it in B.C Roman style. That is NOT an easy thing to do and I do not claim to have done it successfully. Because of the fact that I am plugging modern-ish era Japanese anime characters into 72 B.C Rome, there are going to be a ton of character modifications like dialect/nationality and this time, the Spartacus world with dominate. Consider this as Fairy Tail characters re-envisioned in this era/style.
Dialogue is a big one. I try to use the Spartacus equivalent of social behaviour for my story. I know this is not historically accurate in any way, but it leaves me a little more room to keep some of the original personalities of F.T characters inserted. Another big one is names. A LOT of F.T character names are just NOT going to fit. Some modifications have been made to their canon names and if they are unrecognizable, I will keep a running list on this introduction. One that I expect to get flack for is the early, incorrect translation for Gajeel's name commonly read as Gazille. I am not meriting this translation in the least. It doesn't appear in any of my other canon fics. I simply found that it is the better suited version of his name to insert into this type of story. Some characters will simply be omitted for having names or personalities that are far too incompatible, but Gajeel is a big part of Neirah's story no matter what A/U.
I also want to touch on races/nationalities. Again, I know Spartacus wasn't 100% accurate on these sorts of things so please bear that in mind when you read a Spartacus fanfiction. A good example is Neirah and Gajeel being of Egyptian descent. Obviously, Neirah and Gajeel in their canon worlds are not Egyptian but look at the world I'm putting them into. For starters, not a single one of the F.T inserts will be Japanese. It just doesn't make sense. I try not to get too into details about lineage unless it means something later in the story but it will happen. I have to try and keep my world centred around the B.C Roman Empire. Again, not something I claim to be skilled at.
For the meantime, unless I deem it utterly ridiculous, I will be keeping the canon appearances of the Fairy Tail characters. Juvia and Levy are introduced early on and with their iconic blue-do's. For simplicities sake, I will be keeping these colours like they were normal back then; something else I beg forgiveness for.
The last thing I want to touch on is slavery and other questionable content that is bound to be in this story. I am 100% new to scripting all of this. I am actually a very timid writer, and despite enjoying Spartacus, I really dislike a LOT of the content in it. Some of the things people say and the things they deem acceptable in their word/time; it makes me very uncomfortable. Writing it has been particularly challenging. Putting such appalling dialogue in my favourite character's mouths is not something I like to do. I find it hard to go back and unsee that kind of behaviour when I pick back up in their canon world. But, this is my challenge, to try and merge these worlds. I sure as heck could have probably picked an easier place to start, but these are two popular fandoms in my household so hey – why not?
Imagination time.
This entire fiction has been very challenging for me to write but has really helped to broaden my perspective on literature. I hope that this up-to-date entry can help answer some questions that are sure to surface as we go and if you follow this story, I really hope I don't bastardize it, or the fandoms, in the process.
Your humble entertainer.
