10 Firsts for Peter Petrelli
Claude took one look at his worried face and told him he wasn't to blame for bringing them here, and that he is not responsible for the entire world. Somehow, Claude knew that no one ever bothered to tell him that.
------------
He sees the smiling face of the girl, who says he's her hero, and he can't help not only matching it, but wondering just how little he knew Simone, because he has this strange feeling, which makes him wonder why he's suddenly feeling so guilty.
------------
He is standing in the hallway, but overhears Nathan talking on the phone, a female voice on the line. He pictures a pretty young face, blonde hair, and just enough of an edge about her. He hears Nathan moaning and quickly backs away from the door. He knew about the other women, just now he seemed more a politician that his brother.
------------
When he silently walks into another room, having lost track of how he was sneaking around while invisible. He hears a noise, and turns to see his niece walking in, her hair wet, and a towel wrapped around her. He suddenly realizes it wasn't guilt he was feeling, but attributes his creeping thoughts to being invisible.
------------
He points out his family and names them to Claude as he leads him into the backyard. He is not surprised at Claude's nonchalant reaction to his family; nor the sudden look of menace in his eyes when he sees Nathan. He can't decipher Claude's face at seeing Claire; but it suddenly makes Peter feel in on a secret he doesn't even know.
------------
He can hear Hiro's excitable voice before he sees him. The two Japanese men look at him happily, one with a sword slung on his back. Claire is obviously excited to be there, Nathan seems to actually get along with one of them, and Claude is just laughing at the situation in general. He wondered if they might finally be a team.
------------
Two pretty blondes on the younger side of the adult spectrum arrive at their house on the same day. One looks kind of scared with a daunting looking Black man and their son, the other with a southern accent who looks like she's on her own a lot. Upon learning quietly from his brother who they are, he is surprised to see which one hugs Nathan, and which one hugs Claude.
------------
He is showing Claire the sunset from the roof of the Deveaux Society, and just her laugh of delight releases all that pent up guilt, fear, and doubt…all in himself. She clings to him as they hover just above the floor, bathed in the pink sky. When he kisses her he knows his feelings can't be wrong, as he allows himself to think of him and Claire as an us.
------------
A month later, back on the roof, he holds Claire as she sobs. Both of them should be happy and thinking about the future and trying to save the world for their child, now that Claire is pregnant. But it's not his child, and Peter's heart fills with a desire to murder the father, just as strongly has he feels that he should be the father: and not some sick psychopathic murderer/rapist who likes to kill his own kind for more power.
------------
It is just like his vision, only completely different. Everyone is there, but no one runs away. They stand there, looking at him resolutely, none of them about the budge. He doesn't know how, but he knows that everything is going to be ok, whether they live or die. He takes solace in knowing that the unconscious Sylar will get his due if he blows up, and that Claire and his family will be with him. It's not a matter of him being burdened by the world anymore; it's about sharing the responsibility.
