"Ace!" Luffy blasted the two guards from the stand, and he caught Ace in mid air and they fell from the stand. Luffy immediately began to unlock the sea stone cuffs that bound Ace.

"Luffy, why do you have those keys?"

Luffy eyed the marines groaning in the wreckage of the stand around them. "A friend, stories later….we have to go!" He hoisted his adopted brother on his shoulder and started to retreat, but the sound of a powering light beam made his heart skip a beat and he saw Kizaru smile at him.

"Oh no you don't, Starw-hat." The beam was fired.

Luffy's face contorted in despair as he looked behind him as he fell when Garp pushed him out of the path of a light beam. Luffy clutched Ace in his arms and screamed as the beam passed directly through the old man's body, and Garp fell to his knees.

"Grandfather!" Luffy cried, and Garp slowly smiled, his head handing as he caught his breath.

"Go Luffy….I can't let my two only grandsons die here."

Luffy started to run again, but tears streamed down his face and tears welled and spilled on Ace's. "Grandfather!" Luffy choked on his tears. "Even though all you ever did was hit me and yell at me…I love you! I love you Grandfather! I love you!" Luffy sobbed and Kizaru glittered before Garp.

"I know Luffy." Garp whispered as he looked at his death.

"Garp…why?" the general said looking curiously down at the gasping old man.

Garp cracked a grin. "He's my grandson, they are my family…I became a marine to protect those I love and all I've ever done is hurt them. This is my atonement as an old man. I have no regrets." His grin turned into a smirk. "Shall we?" He stood up slowly, but lunged forward, blocking a light beam and he dived, fits raised at Kizaru. His last battle and his lasting legacy would stand against the marines, and he was fine with that.
