Chapter 00 - Steal My Thunder

CRASH

A Desk is thrown across the room, followed by the crinkle of paper once stacked neatly opon it invading the airspace, only to float lazily to the floor.

"RAAAAAAAAAAHHH!"

A fist finds purchase in the thick mahogany of the office mantle.

THUD

He was too slow to protect his friends, his allies or even his sensei. The news had come; they had won but they had lost many. There was no way to describe the pain of losing so many who counted on you for the sake of their very lives. Those who had believed in you, those you betrayed.

The pain returned full force as hot liquid met his cheeks. Tears summoned by sadness and heated by self hatred.

He looked up at a mirror hanging lopsidedly on his wall.'WEAK!' He snatched the mirror up and slams it to the floor. 'WEAK!' He leaned against the wall and slid to a sitting position, his head in his hands.

The office door opens and footsteps made their way over to his side. "Why didn't they just give me more time? I almost had it." He shuddered a sigh. "I failed them." He looked up to see someone squatting in front of him. His wife had just returned from the hospital. 'Kushina.' She puts her hand on his shoulder looking straight into his eyes.

"I know how you feel. It was the same for me with Uzu." Her face gained a far off expression before refocusing. "But we're both better than this. In this world people will be lost. All we can do is get strong enough so it doesn't happen again." She smirked in a way that still beleighed her solemn demeanor. "I know you've heard it a hundred different times from a hundred different people but it's true." She righted his head to face her as he tried to look away. "Shinobi persevere, shinobi protect. We get better everyday to keep what we love safe and we always look to the future."

He looked down ashamed. She was right as always. He'd never be able to win an argument against her. "Sensei would be ashamed of me. So much for my strength in the will of fire."

She held him at arm's length and gave him a hard look. "Don't be that way Minato; Jiraiya will never be ashamed of you. He knows you and trusts that you'll do what's right." Her voice softened. "I know you too, and you know I will always love and support you." She kissed him and after a while Minato regained enough strength to return it, deep and true.

After a while she broke away and stood. "It's been a long day. I'm heading to bed." She extended her arm down to him. "Care to join me?" She waggled her eyebrows. He took her hand and heaved himself up with a grunt. "Sure." He replied in his best seductive voice.

They proceeded to go to bed and sleep a full eight hours like responsible adults. Definitely.

AN

Shoutout(s): HorrificallyDreadful

This guy/gal, (idk didn't really think to ask), is the plug. Constructive detailed reviews and good overall chill chap. Writes some very good stories, so if you're in for some interesting plot twists and stellar world building, hit up my fam's page. Be warned, your emotions will be toyed with and crushed ruthlessly.

Thing to Note

-Not too big on this chapter, seems like a good point to lay a foundation but it's kind of a chore.

-I did some revisions to this chapter, (the only chapter so far), and I have to say I like it a bit more.

-It is still subject to change, which is not likely to be major at any rate until we get into the meat.

-More interesting plot points are coming quickly. (Meat)

-This is intended to be more of a prologue so skipping is an option but you will miss some of that dan . Well maybe not 'foreshadowing' but you'll see how things connect.
