It was close to Midyears Day, and Sam was traveling with his family to a feast, Pippin was holding in the Tookland Hall. On the second day of their travels, the decided to stop for dinner by the Brandywine River. Sam sent Goldilocks for mushrooms. She was walking on the bank, not finding any mushrooms, when she noticed a stooped figure sitting on the riverside, motionless. As Goldilocks drew nearer, she saw that it was a hobbit lad fishing in the last of the day's sun. He was about her age, and looked familiar, though she was not sure why.
He looked up as he heard he footsteps draw near. Her hair was gathered up in a blue ribbon, but a few tight curls fell over her eyes. She walked over to him, and favored him with a smile. "Hi my name is Goldilocks, what's yours?"
He tried to speak his name, but he couldn't remember it, what was it again? How could he have forgotten it, it had just been yelled at him that morning! At last, he remembered it, and spoke the word Faramir, and he shook her hand. Faramir dimly noticed in the back of his mind, a small tug on the rod he had not put down. His hands had begun to sweat minutes before, and the rod went flying out of his hand. Turning form Goldilocks, he tried to catch the rod by lunging forward. His hands grabbed something, (perhaps a small twig) as he was trying to save himself from dropping into the water. A scream, and a splash of water that he heard before he himself was submerged in the icy water clarified that it had not grabbed a branch, but he had grabbed the young maid's leg!
Goldilocks' hair, which moments before had been all neat and tidy, now resembled something a bird would nest in, only, after a flood. Naturally, Faramir was shocked. His (already large) eyes had doubled in size, as he looked at her. Timidly, he flipped her hair off of her face in an attempt to reduce her fury at him (it didn't really work). As he gazed into her face, (it was hard, as she was not giving him the most loving of looks) he raised his eyebrows, and smiled the sort of guilty smile your friends may use on you if you have done something you may dislike.
In response, she crossed her arms, glared at him, and Faramir gazed through the murky water down at his feet. With at flip of her damp curls, and a snarl, she climbed out of the river, and walked away with all the dignity she could muster.
