"Mom, I can't find my charger..." Jenn called from the second floor.

"You sure you looked good enough through your room?" I replied grabbing my coffee and coat. Today was an unusually cold day.

She came bounding down the stairs two at a time, hair uncombed, and still wearing what she wore to bed. She had the charger in her hands.

"Where'd you find it?" I asked about to step out the door.

"It was in Gabriel's room. Are you sure you don't want to call a babysitter to watch him? I know you hate when I miss school…"

"No, that's okay. I really need to get going now though. Love you, honey."

"Love you too, mom."

I smiled at her, and turned and walked out the door and to my car. The traffic was horrible. From the looks of it, it would take me about two hours to get to work. Good thing I left early.

I got to work five minutes late. Damn it! The boss isn't going to be too happy. I hurried and checked in then rushed to my office.

I glanced at the clock. 7:12 a.m. All was quiet. Once settled, I started on entering the finance information and checking any voicemails left. By the time everything had been updated it was only 8:15 and I figured I could give Jenn a call to see how she and Gabriel were getting along. I dialed the home phone and she answered.

"Hello?"

"Hey, honey. How's it going?" I asked, balancing my office phone between my shoulder and ear.

"Pretty good. Had to change his diaper though and clean his crib sheets."

"Oh, thank you, I appreciate that, you know?"

"Yeah… Oh no!"

I heard a muffled crash and my daughter's voice saying, "Look at the mess you made! Come here so I can clean you up. No, don't touch that!"

"Honey?" I asked into the phone.

"Sorry, mom. Gabriel decided it was a good idea to spill his cereal all over the place and to bathe in his orange juice. Anyway, I have to go clean it up. Love you, bye."

"Bye." I said to a dead phone line.

I sighed. I had a meeting at 9:30 but was free until then. I made my way to the break room and grabbed some breakfast and some more coffee. Luckily, the break room was always stocked with food so there was no worries if I left the house without eating.
I finished and headed back to my office. I sat at my desk and gazed out the window, thinking about different things. There was a small figure getting bigger by the second.. heading towards my window.

Is that a plane?
