A/N: When the lovely Mad Server messaged me and told me it was Enkidu07's, our fearless leader in this drabble challenge, birthday she encouraged me to stick some Dean h/c in this week's drabble submission. I, always one to revel in some good Dean whump, eagerly took up the cause! And so, my first "Five Times" fic was born. Each is a drabble, and each uses the challenge word. And, of course, each centers on Dean in various states of unwell-ness. Enjoy all and HAPPY BIRTHDAY ENKIDU07!!!
E/O Drabble challenge: nauseous (which, thanks to this challenge, I now actually know how to spell.)
____________________________________________________________________________
1. Stitches
A hunt gone bad, an unconscious father, and Sam starts stitching Dean for the first time.
Dean grits his teeth and fights to stay awake, because Sam's looking paler even though its Dean whose losing blood. Both are all too aware of the needle piercing Dean's tender flesh.
The blood-loss makes him nauseous and weak, but he fights for awareness as he talks Sam through it. When Dean finally does pass out, it is to Sam's voice going through the periodic table of the elements. Dork, he thinks, until he realizes Sam's singing it to the tune of Metallica.
2. Dislocations
Sam once popped his dad's thumb back into the socket, but as he watches Dean brace himself he thinks that a thumb is very different than a shoulder.
Dean's already told him what he needs to do, and he realizes that hesitating really isn't helping.
He goes for it, grabbing the limb like he was told, pulling and twisting the joint until he hears the faint pop.
Dean yells, pain making the room spin and he chokes back bile, waiting for the nauseated feeling to pass. Sam's hand rubbing slow circle on his back keeps him tethered to the world.
3. Rib Injuries
Most people are proud of their kid's first steps, but John's beaming because he's proud of Sam's first rib binding.
Apparently paint cans do damage, especially when wielded by angry spirits. After making sure Dean could breathe, John turns his oldest over to Sammy for "practice."
Dean's a horrible patient, bitching and moaning about the nausea and being used as a practice dummy.
Then his tone changes, gentles, talks Sammy through wrapping the binding around his chest because he can tell that Sam is terrified he's going to hurt him.
John thinks that when he's gone, they'll do just fine.
4. Fevers
With their dad absent, for the first time Dean's health rests solely on Sam's shoulders.
Dean's sick, and somewhere between the fever, nausea, chills, coughing, and general not well-ness Dean stopped trying to deny it.
Except that Dean still won't take take the cough syrup.
But Sam's not John's son for nothing, so the next time Dean's eyelids flutter open he sets his mouth in a firm line and commands Dean to take the goddamn medicine.
Dean cracks and eye open, tells Sam he does a shitty impression of dad, and takes the medicine anyway.
Huh. Well, whatever works.
5. Hospitals
Sam realizes that its the first time he's responded no when the nurse offers to contact their father.
Dean looks nauseous and out of it when he does wake up, but Sam still hurts when the first word out of Dean's mouth is Dad?
Because Dean looks young and heartbroken when he replies to the negative and reminds Dean that Dad's off god knows where and will not be joining them.
Then Dean seems to realize that Sam is there, solid, and that they're holding hands.
Dean mutters bitch with a huge smile on his face and falls back asleep.
