Run run run...
A Flame of Recca/Recca no Honou fanfic

Notes: This is just a little strange. I'm not sure if Fuuko completely feels this way, but
at times I'm maybe. I've always been fascinated by the Recca/Fuuko relationship. Well,
actually, I just think it's a hell of alot more interesting than the Recca/Yanagi one,
*winces* ^^;; This prose isn't really implying any romantic connection, just on the
friendship level, 'k? Okay, I'll shut up.

I remember when we first met. You took my hand and we played a game of thumb
war. You won and bragged on of how you've never been beaten and never will be.

I remember in first grade, you slithered through the jungle gyms, clang onto the
monkey bars, making it impossible for me to catch you. Then you would brag on and on as I
sit, clutching my fists.

I remember in fourth grade, you played with strange weapons, mumbling how you will
be the greatest ninja ever lived. I laughed and spat that ninjas don't exist anymore. You
laughed back and said "watch and see, I'll be the best, and if you can ever beat me, I will be
your personal ninja." I shook my head nonchalantly, crazy Recca.

I remember in seventh grade, you played with smoke bombs, jumped over walls,
climbed over trees, recited your strange sayings like 'a ninja must always be prepared'.
While I, slaved myself to beat you so I can make you my slave for the rest of your
miserable adolescence life. But you'd always use one of your bloody hateful tricks to
keep me from getting close to you. Then you'd grin in front of the setting sun and brag of
how you've never been beaten and never will be.

I remember yesterday, on top of the roof I asked why. Why won't you wait for me
Recca? Why do you always have to run, wild and free, leaving me in the amidst your dust…
You laughed in response, questioning why I was being so passive all of a sudden. It was then
I realized you never knew me, Recca. You were always in your own world, oblivious to your
surroundings, apathetic of me. So I turned and walked away, leaving you to run your race,
because I can't catch up with you anymore, Recca, I have to chase my own race…

Run run run, Recca, and perhaps someday, I will catch up with you.
