Chasing Butterflies
Sasuke Uchiha sat in the classroom staring straight ahead. His expression was one of complete boredom. The only signs of his attention were the small veins twitching on the side of his head. He could feel them pressing closer, demanding attention that would never come. The one pair of eyes that he wanted to see him didn't glance over; and when her eyes finally did, they always seemed to see past him.
"There's another one, Sasuke-kun!" She exclaimed, pointing almost eagerly toward the floating blue butterfly. She seemed to blink at the two children before darting low to the ground. She giggled and raced after it. Sasuke was hot on her heels. Unlike most boys, he did not shove her; he was simply content to run beside her. The butterfly landed on Sasuke's older brother's head. Hinata stopped short, unsure if she should approach the almost untouchable teenager. Sasuke didn't have a problem though. He barreled toward his older brother and stood on his tiptoes in an attempt to reach the top of his brother's head. Itachi smiled in amusement. Sasuke growled in aggravation. His brother was sitting down! Why couldn't he reach?!
"Still not tall enough," he teased. Sasuke flopped down next to his brother and pouted. The pout was soon erased when the butterfly left Itachi's head in favor of Hinata's shoulder. The small girl giggled again and smiled happily at the small butterfly.
Sasuke sighed almost inaudibly. His chest barely moved with the action, but it still managed to draw the attention of his many fan girls. He tuned out the argument of what (who) he was thinking about easily and over the shoulder of Sakura Haruno, he met her lavender eyes. Then, she gave him a sign that those cherished memories hadn't been forgotten: she smiled.
