Merlin: Season 4, Episode 5 - His Father's Son
Arthur notices that Merlin is not clumsy when he is wearing a cloak.
When Agravaine suggested Merlin dress as a knight and act as bait to draw the invaders into a trap, Arthur thought his uncle was joking. He laughed until his saw his uncle was dead serious. Arthur was about to question Agravaine when Merlin agreed with the noble.
Gwaine insisted that Merlin wear his mail and cloak, "It fits rather nicely," Gwaine thought to himself as he watched Merlin set out to lure the Caerleon invaders to the trap.
Merlin had always been a fast runner, so even the heavy, cumbersome chainmail he was able to stay ahead of the soldiers as lead them to the ravine. From his hiding place, Arthur watched his usually clumsy manservant rush through the rough terrain, which would have tripped up even the most skilled knights, with apparent ease. Arthur's heart almost stopped when he saw the axe headed for his friend. When Merlin smoothly scooped it up while rising to his feet, Arthur was shocked to see the idiot raise the weapon in a defensive pose that would have made Leon beam with pride. Could this really be the same man who hid behind trees during fights? "It must be the cloak," Arthur muttered under his breath as he signaled the bowmen to open fire.
No sooner than Merlin hand the bundle of red material back to Gwaine than the servant tripped over a tree root.
"It is definitely the cloak," Arthur thought "Maybe I should have him wear one next time we go hunting…"
