Chapter 1 - New Beginnings
"No, Dad! Please, you can't make me!"
"I'm sorry, honey. I just got promoted at the office and I don't have enough time to tutor you anymore. You need to understand."
"But-but please! It's already the middle of the school year! No one would like me!"
"Of course they would. You just have to-" my dad was cut off by his phone ringing.
I'm Ally Dawson. I've been home schooled for several years. My dad suddenly told me that I'd be attending public school. I knew there was no way to convince my dad to continue tutoring me so I just gave up the arguing and headed to my room.
You see, my mom died in a car accident while I was in kindergarten. I acted up so much in school. Throwing tantrums, destroying materials, and even hitting the other kids. I guess I let my emotions get the best of me, because I was so close with my mom. My dad decided that it was best for me to be home schooled. Until tomorrow when I go to public school. I moved on from my mom, Well not completely, but enough.
What's the worse that could happen at school? I'm just overreacting, right?
I wake up the next morning with my dad yelling for me to get up. 5:30 am?! I'm already dreading today. This was way too early for me. I was used to waking up at noon, 10 at the earliest. I take a long time picking out the perfect outfit. I eventually chose a red blouse, with a black and white striped skirt, topped with a white cardigan. I put on my favorite brown boots and meet my dad downstairs.
"Today's the big day, Ally!" my dad says excitedly. "What's on your mind, honey?" he asks after he notices my saddened expression.
"I just- I don't think I'll fit in. I'm a junior, and it's halfway through the year. It's just a bad time to attend a new school." I explain to him.
"Well, I know it'll be hard, but just...try talking to some people. Break out of that shell!"
Why do parents automatically think their children can just 'talk to people' and get rid of their shyness right away? Do they not understand it's not something that can change overnight. But I know my dad was just trying to encourage me, and I thank him anyway. He drives me to school and drops me off at the front.
"Have fun, sweetie! I'll be home at around 10 pm!" he says then heads off to work.
This is it. Public High School. I've heard this was the 'best 4 years of your life'. In my case it would be the 'worst 1½ years of my life'. I sigh and walk through the entrance. Out of nowhere I was met by a large figure and stumbled to the ground.
"Watch where you're going!" the person yelled out in disgust.
Great. I haven't been in High School for 1 minute and people already hate me.
