A/N: Grr. This was kinda hard to write, as I was trying to flesh out Nakago's emotions without getting too… emotional, you know? Tell me what you think.
Disclaimer: I do not own Fushigi Yuugi.
She dies trying to say the words he never will.
Nakago looks at her as the light fades from her eyes, trying to get a bearing on how he feels. In most situations he makes it a point not to feel anything, or not to show it, for the very least. But for all that he has seen many people die, and thrown away countless lives as a means to an end, he had never seen anyone willingly give up life, and seem so… contented.
The cold, analytical part of him is already chafing as it calculates what a nuisance some things will become, now that Soi is dead.
There is no name for the part of him that presses his fingers into the still warm skin of her upper arm, hard enough to bruise, registering that the perfume of her heavy hair is just enough to dull the stench of sweat and blood in his immediate atmosphere.
"Soi," he says shortly, looking down at her.
I love you.
A/N: I rather like doing introspective pieces for this fandom. :)
