Its not like she hadn't thought about how awkward it was going to be between them. She was after all going to be dating her ex-boyfriend. She remembers when she had heard the office gossip going around about the two of them a few years back. She remembers how she felt when she found out for sure they had been seeing each other, she hated not knowing. Its not like they needed Calleigh's blessing when they were together, Eric wasn't hers then, but why did she feel the need to ask for it now. Then she remembered why. She remembered how hurt her best friend Carrie was when Calleigh went out with her ex-boyfriend. It wasn't because she still cared about Jason but because Calleigh should have said something to her instead of hearing it from everyone else. No matter how many times Calleigh apologized, the friendship crumbled because of it.
Calleigh and Eric had been seeing each other a lot more in the past few weeks. They still hadn't made it official because Calleigh felt that she had to clear it with Natalia first. She didn't want Natalia to feel uncomfortable around either of them.
The day was quickly drawing to a close. It had been another busy day in Miami; at least Calleigh had the weekend to look forward to. Eric had mentioned something about dinner on the beach that night. Thankfully her plans with him made her day go by a lot faster. She had told him that she would meet him at 7:30.
Natalia was in the locker room grabbing her things before they left for the weekend.
"Hey Nat"
"Hey Cal, headed out?"
"Yeah, hey can we talk for a minute?"
"Sure, do you wanna grab a cup of coffee."
"Yeah."
The two women walked down the street from the lab to the coffee shop. They ordered their respective cups of coffee and sat down at the corner booth.
"What's going on Cal?"
"There's
something I need to tell you."
"Cal, we have known each
other for 4 years, you can tell me anything."
"Ok here goes. Eric and I have been seeing each other a lot lately and before we make it official I just wanted to have your blessing." Calleigh told her. She didn't look up at her friend because she was afraid of what her reaction would be.
Natalia let out a giggle. "Cal, you and Eric don't need my permission or my blessing. Frankly, I was wondering what the hell was taking you guys so long."
"I just didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable around us."
"Cal that is the last thing you should be worrying about. You two are made for each other." Natalia smiled at her.
"So you're not mad?" Calleigh asked.
Natalia laughed once again. "God no, I couldn't be happier for you guys. It's about damn time."
Calleigh laughed. "It would really make me feel better if you gave me your blessing. I wouldn't want to do wrong by you."
"Cal, you and Eric both have my blessing," Natalia said.
The women finished up their coffee and caught up on Natalia's love life before the sound of Calleigh's phone ringing interrupted them.
Eric was calling to confirm their plans for the evening. Natalia could see the instant smile that Eric's voice brought to Calleigh's face.
The pair said their goodbyes with a promise to meet up in the morning for some shopping. As Natalia watched Calleigh walk away she wondered what would have made Calleigh ask for her blessing. She knew in her heart that Calleigh didn't need her blessing or her permission to fall in love with Eric. Eric's heart had belonged to Calleigh long before Natalia entered the picture and even if her and Eric had stayed together she knew that it would have to be her to ask for Calleigh's blessing, never the other way around.
