Shooting Star
"Oh, a shooting star!" Rika exclaimed.
"Yeah, I saw it," Syaoran agreed.
"I didn't," Sakura complained.
Tomoyo comforted her. "You'll see the next one; don't worry."
Minutes passed in silence as the group of friends watched the sky. They were sitting around one of many warm fires in the open area at their school. The teachers had just decided one day that it would be a good idea for all the teens in their final year of high school to camp there one night and be together one last time before they all went their separate ways. Everyone was divided into their little groups of friends.
"That flashing light… what is it?" Sakura asked.
"It's the aliens coming to get you, monster," Chiharu teased in a brilliant imitation of Toya. Sakura laughed along with Tomoyo, Syaoran, Mei-Lin, Naoko, and Rika.
"But seriously, what is it?" Sakura asked again.
"A satellite," Tomoyo answered. "My mother's company owns one." Nobody was surprised; her mother's company had everything.
"There!" Naoko said suddenly. This time, Sakura didn't miss the small light that shot across the sky and disappeared over the horizon. It was another shooting star.
During the course of the night, they saw many more satellites and a few more shooting stars. They made it into a kind of game to see how many shooting stars and satellites there were that night. Then people started getting tired and going to bed.
"So how many did we see, all up?" Mei-Lin asked, getting up. Chiharu got up, too, and yawned.
"In total, we have seen eight satellites and three shooting stars," Naoko said.
"Goodnight, then," Mei-Lin said, walking towards the tents.
"Night," Chiharu said, following Mei-Lin.
"I'm going to bed, too," Naoko suddenly decided.
Rika and Tomoyo agreed they were tired, too, and went to bed, leaving only Syaoran and Sakura beside the camp fire.
"Nobody here but us ducks," Syaoran mused. Sakura laughed.
Another shooting star appeared, diving towards the other end of the sky and vanishing before they could get a proper look at it.
"I'm glad you're not a shooting star, Sakura," Syaoran said.
"Where did that come from?" Sakura asked him, surprised at his sudden whimsicality.
"I just mean that you won't go as quickly as those stars. You'll be with me for a long time," he explained.
"I'll be with you forever," Sakura corrected.
They were so busy looking at each other that they didn't notice yet another shooting star pass quickly over them.
A/N: This is based off of what happened when I was camping a few weeks ago. Everyone around me saw heaps of shooting stars and satellites but I missed quite a few. And I've never ever seen a shooting star.
Join my army! All against Star Wars being more popular than Card Captor Sakura! I don't have anything against Star Wars specifically; I just love Card Captor Sakura. ^^
