ieatsmiledip here! In this AU Huck is a girl, as recommended by one of my friends. Enjoy!

Huckleberry Finn was sitting on the dock, thinking about her friend Tom Sawyer. Over the course of their adventures, the two had grown very close, to the point where they were inseparable. They spent every waking moment together, at the river, at each others houses, and even at Tom's aunt's house. They discussed the fun times they'd had, the close calls the went through, and even went on some new adventures. But none of those feelings compared to what Huck was feeling now. Every time she looked at Tom, it felt like her soul… tingled. Grew warmer.

Could this be what "love" felt like? she thought. She had never felt love, not from her father, or her friends, or even the boys she had crushed on during her trip down the river. Those had always been simple lust, caused by the onslaught of puberty. But this? This was different. She wasn't in love with the body, she was in love with the person. Tom understood her, liked her, encouraged her. Without him, she wouldn't be the person she was now.

Her heart panged when Tom sat next to her and dangled his bare feet into the waters of the Mississippi. She had been so involved in her thoughts that she had forgotten the only person she ever loved was next to her, fishing.

"You've been quiet lately. What're you thinkin' about?" Tom said.

Huck closed her eyes and contemplated. Should she profess her love for Tom? Now seemed as good as ever. And she didn't want to keep it hidden forever. Despite just realizing her affections, she decided to come out.

"Tom, I - I have something to tell you," Huck said slowly.

"Go ahead. We're friends, I'll understand," Tom said, expecting to hear about Huck's abuse by her father.

"It's… it's about that," Huck said shakily. "I think I want to be...more than friends? Maybe?"

Tom looked confused, but a little hopeful. "What do you mean?"

"Tom I-I love you."

Tom was shocked. "Do you… do you really mean it Huck?"

Huck's voice was shaky. "Yes. I think-I think I do."

Tom began to chuckle and shake his head.

"What's so funny?" Huck said, taking offense at his strange reaction.

Tom stopped laughing. "Sorry, Huck. It's just… all this time I thought I was the one who was going to awkwardly admit my love for you." He sighed. "Huck? I love you too."

Huck felt a rushing in her heart she had never felt before. She fell to the side onto Tom, knocking him onto his back. She held down his arms and kissed him.

Electricity shot through her veins as their lips made contact, and Huck felt like she belonged there, like she had been born for this moment. She let go of Tom's arms and let him pull her in closer, embracing her. Huck lifted herself up with her arms above Tom, smiling.

"You're a good kisser, you know that?" She said, smiling.

Tom smiled back. "You too."
