Aerys had been a good man, in the start of his reign. As far as any good man could be in Westeros. He was a Targaryen and he would do as expected. He'd rule his kingdoms with his sacrifices and will. He'd be a great ruler, remembered for his kindness.

Perhaps he'd bring the dragons back, there had to be eggs lying around, somewhere. He could be remembered for that. He'd take some time, but he could-He was a Targaryen, all it'd take was fire and blood, no? He'd be remembered for protecting his people, that's what mattered.

He married his sister. It's for the Kingdom. He doesn't quite like her, nonetheless love her. But. It's for his kingdoms. She'll give him a son. An heir. A true Targaryen. He'd name him…something strong. Something that would be remembered in legend, in ballads or on the tongues of sailors and the Seven Kingdoms.

His son would be remembered like Aerys would be.

The people, his people, have rebelled. It's later in his reign, and Aerys isn't as golden as he was. He takes less baths, and hardly looks at himself in mirrors. His nails dig into his arms when he scratches. He's not to blame. This isn't his fault.

It's theirs.

They don't understand. They are ignorant to their own stupidity. Tywin should have been telling them all, no? They'd see. They'd realize soon enough, when Winter came and ravished them all.

His Seven Kingdoms, all up in fire.

He'd protect his home.

They'd see.

Aerys Targaryen would be remembered for protecting his people.

The Mad King would be remembered for trying to burn all of the Seven Kingdoms down, one by one.

He'd be remembered. That's all that mattered.
