Thank you to everyone who read and especially to those who reviewed my previous story. This is just another quick something that popped into my head recently. I hope you enjoy it.
Mixed Reactions
Mr. Darcy was beginning to realize that intentions did not always become what was.
For example, he intended to return to his business letters as soon as seeing the Bennet sisters off to Longbourn.
He intended to think no more of Miss Elizabeth Bennet or her compassion for her sister, her intelligent wit or her teasing nature.
He certainly fully intended to stop dwelling on her eyes.
However, this was where Mr. Darcy's intentions did not manifest themselves into reality.
For, while he meant to write to his steward, he instead wrote to Georgianna.
And, as it turned out, the entire letter was filled with descriptions of Miss Elizabeth's spirit and liveliness.
He did, however, manage to leave out any mention of her eyes, even if they were not far from his thoughts.
So, over the course of the afternoon, Mr. Darcy tried to determine why a sensible, disciplined man such as himself was so unable to act as his mind told him he ought. It was most unusual.
And, while he was dwelling on this, Elizabeth was in her room at Longbourn, trying to ascertain why being home did not seem nearly as wonderful as she had been expecting after so many days at Netherfeld.
Nothing was much changed at home. Everything was as she remembered. But she had the feeling that there was something she was missing.
Finally, Elizabeth could only conclude that this was just another disappointing example of having too high expectations.
Thus, Elizabeth was left surprised at her longing for Netherfeld, while Mr. Darcy could not figure out why his thoughts strayed as far as Longbourn.
And what Georgianna thought of her brother's letter, which she decided he must have sent without reading over, is another matter all together.
