"At Peace"

Chapter One- The Murderer's Murder

He held his pistol in his hands, wishing to God that he could do it. He lifted it and took aim, right at his head.

But he couldn't.

The pain welded inside him, and tears fell down his cheeks.

"Oh shit!" a woman cried, seeing him with the gun. "Boss, he's gonna do it!"

"Gunny, drop the gun" a man said, calmly. He shook his head.

"Fuck, Jethro! Drop the mother fucking gun!" the woman said desperately. She quickly stepped over, snatching the gun from his slack hands.

"Who the hell are you?" he snarled, a bit dozily.

"You drank, didn't you?" she said, slapping her forehand.

"Just a little…" he slurred.

"Come here" she said, lifting him to his feet. Supporting him, the woman led Jethro to the couch.

Sitting him down, she left to get him a glass of water.

"Drink this" she said.

"Nah.." he said.

"I said drink it Jethro!" she said, growling slightly.

He took the glass and pretended to take a sip.

"You may think I'm blind or stupid, but I know when someone's pretending" she said coldly. "I said DRINK THE BLOODY WATER!" As quickly as possible, Gibbs emptied the glass.

"Thank you" she said, taking the glass.

"Now, tell me, do you know anyone who would want to kill Shannon and Kellie?" she asked calmly.

"Who the bloody hell are you? And who said you could call me Jethro? It's Gunnery Sergeant Gibbs to you missy!" he said, falling to the back of the couch.

"We've through this Gunnery Sergeant" she said, annoyed.

He looked at her wearily. Exasperated, she showed him her badge in the way she had been trained to.

"Special Agent Hailey Smith, NCIS" she said, frowning slightly.

"Yeah, I remember you know" he said, hiccupping. "You're the one that told me not to kill the bastard that killed my family".

"And you did it anyway" she said coolly.

"You know what, I'm glad. Glad, I tell you!" he said, calmly.

"Yeah, I hope karma gives you a good kick up your ass" she said.

"Like that's goin' ta happen" he said, his head slowly clearing. "It already has".

"Huh?" she said confused.

"When that…." He said creating a fist. "When he killed my wife and daughter, my Shannon and my Kellie, he got his just deserves. The government would have fried him anyway".

"So?" she asked.

"I gave him the right to die with as much dignity as I was willing to give him" he said calmly.

"You okay now Jethro?" she asked, patting his hands. He pulled away.

"No, not for change" he said, sadness smothering his voice. She moved over next to him, and then he lent his head on her shoulder and cried. Gently she ran her fingers through his hair.

"It's okay" she soothed him softly.

"No," he said sadly. "It's not".
