It seemed like Skye was permanently glued to the chair by Lincoln's bed. Jemma had assured her that he was going to be fine, but Skye insisted on staying beside him. She noticed Fitzsimmons watching her from a distance, but didn't turn away from Lincoln. She understood her friends concern, but she assured them that she needed to take Lincoln home. It was her fault that he was in this mess to begin with. Plus, Skye though that it would be nice if he had a friend next to him when he awoke. At least, that was what she was telling herself. Skye looked down at Lincoln and smiled. What mattered now was that he was alive. Then, the lights began to flicker around the base. Lincoln, who didn't seem to notice the lights, opened his eyes.
Skye smiled and said "Hi, it's okay. You're safe now." She paused for a moment. "I did notice you're not naked with needles poking out of your skin."
Skye laughs, and Lincoln chuckles. She's relieved that he's okay, and that he finally woke up. Then, Jemma walks over. She sees Lincoln tense up.
"Oh, uh, it's okay. You can trust them. They're my friends. They helped save you," she says in an attempt to reassure him. Jemma notices that now might not be the best time to examine their newcomer, and leaves.
"You never should've come for me," Lincoln tells Skye.
"I had to," Skye said, as if she had to defend herself for saving his life. "Jiaying wouldn't allow it if I-"
"There's a reason for that," he responded, cutting her off. "The only thing that's kept us safe all these years is that we were a secret. Now S.H.E.I.L.D. knows we exist and they won't stop until they find Afterlife."
People in the surrounding areas turned and looked at them. Skye sat in silence, thinking of what could happen to Afterlife. Strangely, she didn't regret it very much.
Lowering her voice so the others couldn't hear, she said "Well, I couldn't leave to die Lincoln. You're my friend. And friends don't leave friends behind."
Lincoln gave her a half smile. "Guess there's nothing we can do about it now."
Skye decided that Lincoln had had a rough day, and decide not to tell him that she when she found him at the Hydra base, he had been dead. Skye figured it would be best to tell him when all the commotion died down so it wouldn't stress him out more.
While looking at Lincoln, she said, "I guess so. "
"We have to warn them so they are ready for the worst," he said.
"We will," Skye said with newfound determination. "We'll all be ready. You too. But first, you have to get better."
