Little Moments in black and white
I can only add to the Grantchester universe. May I do it justice.
Sidney's heart crashed to the floor and splintered into a million tiny pieces. Leonard was in a wonderful place. He was free to court the girl of his choice. Sidney smiled grimly as he receives his housekeeper's protective chastizement. He knew what he wanted. He knew who he had always wanted to be with. In another world, it might have happened.
Amanda was his joy. She could light up a room like no other. The light that was kindled by Little Grace outshone the light of her mother like an exploding sun. She had no control over anything and yet she was the light of his life. To even consider her father raising her crushed his chest like a vise. He had never dreamed that such a small bundle could create such a reaction, especially in him.
He turned away from the the delightful chatter which had resumed in the parlour. He turned into his gloomy little study. The inevitable descent into madness through jazz and alcohol slowly began. Jazz should cause such joy, but it was the exact opposite reaction. He would think on his love for Amanda and the love they all could share.
The more he thought on the matter, the more her honour came into sharp focus. He was not the right man for her, despite his love. He could never curse her future for a love, no matter the resilience. She was worth more than life to him and yet, a life with him would lead to an inevitable death, if only socially. He knew what the right thing to do was. He knew what he would do, despite the pain.
