Summary: "I'm leaving my wife for you!" he yells, finally raising his voice to her. "What the hell is wrong?" (Meredith/Derek)
A/N: This was written for a 500-word challenge with the prompt 'space'. Un-beta-ed with an awful title, but enjoy anyway!

"You can't leave her!" she screams, hysterical, as tears begin to stream down her face. With her tiny, ineffectual fists, she proceeds to try to pummel him.
A surprised, "What?" escapes his lips. He thought, well, secretly hoped, that there would be some kind of dramatic reaction to the news, but it was supposed to involve eyes glimmering with tears of happiness, not Meredith attacking him.
"Get out," she states in an icy voice, giving herself a moment to breathe, before she pushes him toward the front door.
He stays stationary until a fist in his back hits what is presumably his kidney. "Ow!" he exclaims, thinking that the punch was completely unnecessary. "Meredith, can't we just talk about this?" His tone is level in the annoyingly McDreamy way.
"No, we can't! Get out of my house, Derek!" she screams, forcing him out the door. George and Izzie, who were heading down the stairs to see what all the noise was about, turn promptly around at the mention of his name. They'll be able to hear perfectly well from upstairs.
"I'm leaving my wife for you!" he yells, finally raising his voice to her. "What the hell is wrong?"
She echoes, "What the hell is wrong, Derek? What the hell is wrong?" as though he is the most oblivious person on the planet. "What's wrong is that you can't stay away and that you have ruined my life! You teased me, smelling my hair, looking at me, and then you called me a whore. Not only that, you made me a whore, and everyone knew it, too, even if no one was brave enough to admit it out loud. And you've never been sorry,"
She takes a break to cry, when he opens his mouth. "Meredith," he begins, ignoring the fact that she's holding up her hand to silence him. "Meredith, it'll be okay,"
"Maybe it'll be okay for you, but I know you've been okay all along. You've had your wife to go home to and your mistress to flirt with, but it has never been okay for me. I'm ruined because of you, and I've broken up a marriage. I'm the other woman. If people talked about me before, can you imagine what they'll say now that, a week after prom, you leave her for me? So, please, Derek, just please leave me alone and let me hate you,"
She looks as though she is about to collapse, out of breath and willpower to fight, as the final words leave her mouth. He has a million things to say to her, but they'll have to wait. His arms wrap around her slender figure, pulling her close. Crying out, she tries to push away, but he's too strong. He knows that, eventually, Meredith will realize, as his warmth and love surround her, that the last thing she needs is space.
