Give Up or Get Over?
By Angela Rizhel
Ginny sat on Hermione's bed in the fifth-year Gryfindor girls' dormitory, accompanied by several issues of Witch Weekly and every sweet imaginable, both magical and muggle. Hermione was reading the September Witch Weekly (5 Special Spells to Get Rid of Acne, Inside!) while throwing mini marshmallows in her mouth. Hermione smiled guiltily at the thought of Eloise Midgen cursing her acne off. If only she subscribed, she wouldn't have the embarrassing reputation of having her name brought up every time acne was mentioned.
Ginny, more partial to magical candy, was chewing on a treacle tart jellybean while painting her nails with Vicious Trollop. Ginny was not a slut, she only used that particular color because it looked best on her.
"Michael Corner asked me out today," she said casually.
Hermione, not known as one to engage in such a frivolous activity as "girl talk," contradicted her unique reputation by squealing at Ginny. "What did you say?"
"I told him no," Ginny said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Ginny, you can't keep rejecting guys because of your crush on Harry." Ginny blushed. "You're funny, lively, and pretty, but Harry can't see that because you're too shy around him. Maybe you should date others, become Harry's friend. Show him your true colors." Ginny pondered this for a moment. "Just think about it."
"Fine, I'll think about it," Ginny said.
"Good," Hermione replied, as though the discussion was over. "Ginny?"
"Yes?"
"Want to make me a vicious trollop?" Hermione offered, holding out her hands. Ginny giggled. And they continued to do typical slumber party activities no one in their right mind would have pictured Hermione doing.

Ginny had taken Hermione's advice. She was on her way to find Michael Corner to accept his invitation to Hogsmeade.
She wasn't going to wait around for Harry to finally recognize her. It wasn't like he was just going to randomly kiss her in the common room in front of their entire house.
I mean, what are the odds? Ginny thought.
