We might actually be happy
By Leah Day
Summary
Wee bit fluffy n cute. Offspring fic. Set during the series 2 finale. Nina realises who she wants to be with and is sooo dizzy!
Disclaimer
Crap! Double crap! I do not own Offspring. If I did, think a lot more shag scenes for Patrick and Nina. Plus, Patrick lives! Leo becomes a Reid and Proudman bestie.
Random. Am undecided about series 6 since 5 ended so well.
Rated PG for fluff and for bottom pinching. Written in UK and Australian English. All flames will be ignored or laughed at.
Dedicated to everyone at the Nina and Patrick fans Facebook page.
A few blocks from the pub
Nina's heart was racing like a Thoroughbred on Cup Day. Was it because she'd practically galloped all the way in high heels or was it because she had told him that she … Oh gawd … Happiness. Sunshine and bouncy, bouncy bunny rabbits. Fairies with giant Technicolor wings … holding hands and running through fields of gold, dressed in white.
Hell's Bell's! Was she prepared for this?
"I'm in love with you."
There. Said it. It was such a relief to say. Hard though, she had to stumble through the sentence, but it was a relief to say nonetheless. Not like having a crap or wee relief. This was a completely different sort of relief all together. Bitter sweet. Exhausting.
Somehow, Nina managed to will her worn out feet to bring her closer to him.
Her lips parted.
"I love you …"
She scrambled through a breathless apology, apologising for an imagination so active had there been an Olympics or commonwealth games for imaginations, she would have gotten first in all events participated.
"I love you too."
He loved her.
The corners of Nina's mouth slowly curved upwards. She blinked, sucking air through her nose.
'I need to find him a different aftershave, the one he's wearing is making me dizzy,'
"Nina?"
She grimaced and tottered forward, luckily Patrick caught her before she slipped to the ground.
"Wasn't expecting you to faint," he quipped, trying not to smirk.
"It's your cologne," Nina complained, wrinkling her nose. "It's making me dizzy."
Patrick smiled down at her.
"Give us a hug."
Nina stepped closer, loosely wrapping her arms around him.
"There," she whispered. "There's a hug for you, Patrick Reid."
"A proper one."
Playfully, the doctor pinched his bottom.
"Oi!" he exclaimed, laughing.
She laughed with him, tears of relief, weariness and happiness streaming down her cheeks.
'Perhaps happiness isn't hard after all,' Nina decided.
The pub
Swaying lazily to a slow song neither of them knew the name of, Patrick affectionately nuzzled Nina's neck, curling his arms around her neck and waist.
'Ohhh … he's giving me a neck cushion,' she thought dreamily, perfectly content to close her eyes and lean into him.
As the song ended and an even slower one took its place, the doctors looked up and told each other through their smiles and eyes that they loved each other again, again and again.
The end
Author's note
Truth be told, I'm not used to writing happy fluffy stuff. I'm more of a smut, slash and tragedy kind of girl. However … There was a gap between when Nina and Patrick admit they are in love and the final scene at the pub. I wanted to fill in said gap and, truth be told, I enjoy Patrick and Nina fluff because, on the show, it's done in a way that's not too sickly sweet. I love tragedy and will probably write some more tragedy based Nina and Patrick fics. But I wouldn't mind writing a few fluffies for the sake of balance.
Now.
Going to have a cuppa then I'm going to try my hand at Nina and Patrick smut. Gawd knows when that will be up!
