Dear Diary,

It's really funny the way life works. There's this girl I know, she really knows what I mean. Her name means; the state or quality of being serene. Though her life has been anything but. You see diary, she had a family but they were broken apart. She had a caring mother, a loving father and the world's greatest brother.

Now, she never mentions the word addiction in certain company for fear her mother will move her further away. She says she's an orphan anyway. Her mother is way too protective so she ran away and lives in her brother's old apartment. And her father, she makes sure to steer clear any chance she gets. He's the reason she isn't with Joseph. Or "Joey" as she always called him.

He was beautiful. I met him once before it happened. He was so happy and loving to his "lil sis". Golden hair and amber eyes made me question her biological relation but the love was there and I guess that's all that matters. He was funny, clumsy, and all around fun to be with. He lit up a room with an essence brighter than the sun. I think that's why she was so happy back then.

She paints her eyes as black as night now. Pulls those shades down tight in the small apartment. Not even a candle lit to see. Oh yeah, and she gives you a smile when the pain comes. She says " The pain's going to make everything all right." She also likes to say " He should have just not came. I was being selfish. I should have stayed blind, then I wouldn't see his eyes close."

She likes to think she can talk to angels. This one angel in particular. He calls her out by her name and talks to angels, she says he knows her name. And she keeps a lock of hair in her pocket and wears a cross around her neck. Yeah, the hair is from a little blonde boy and the cross is of someone she has not met. Not yet anyway. But yeah, she talks to angels. This one in particular.

She doesn't know any lover. Not that I've ever seen. To her it's nothing but to me, it's everything. But she paints her eyes as black as night with the shades pulled down tight. Yeah, there's a smile when the pain comes. She says " The pain's going to make everything all right."

Diary, you know, I talk to angels and they call me by my name. Don't you know? They all call me by my name.

--------Serenity.
