For The Crew
Resolute, both feet on the ground,
She faces them all with strong arms crossed.
Some might think she has it figured out,
But they don't know she's already lost.
A confident stride, a smile, a swagger,
A shining mask that hides how she feels.
How she struggles, falters, fails, staggers
When alone in the dark with scars that won't heal.
There's a taste in her mouth that's foul and bitter.
The bulkheads around her are falling apart,
The deck is shifting, giving way beneath her,
Embodying the state of her heart.
Unwavering, she will not stand down,
This last act must be hers alone.
They all must leave without her now,
And her stance must be hard as stone.
Voyager's children know it well,
The prayer on her lips,
A silent scream of love that swells,
"The captain always goes down with the ship."
