A/N; Short one shot..pretty depressing but I couldn't leave an idea begging to leave my brain to go to dust. So, here you are :-D, Oh, and thanks to Lou for helping me with the summary and title..love ya loads!!

They stared down at the crosses, the rain pattering gently on the ground. They all huddled together, each one paying their respects to the people who each had a special place in their hearts. The clouds rolled overhead, turning into a dark grey colour. A flash of lightening lit up the dark sky, illuminating their inner emotions as they openly wept over their grave.

It was a quiet day at the hospital, she had a workload of paperwork, and he had a board full of surgeries to perform. During whatever minutes they had to themselves, they would hold each other, and whisper "I love you's" in each other's ears. Eventually, one of them would get paged and the hours of work began all over again.

Neither of them knew what was going to happen, neither of them knew, that their last kiss, would be their last. It was a rampage, gunmen running through the halls, mowing down anyone they lay their eyes on.

One of them saw her.

He saw them.

He ran towards her, he had seen the glint of a gun being raised, pointed at her chest. He shouted, she was frozen in fear. He scooped her up as the gun was shot.

He collapsed on the floor, as fast as the gunmen came in, they ran out. Time slowed down, almost stopping as he reached out and touched her tear stained face.

"I love you.." He mustered, before his last breath left his body and he stopped living in her arms.

He died so that she could live.

She broke down over his body, cradling his head in her arms. It seemed as if time had completely stood still, and she lay next to her lover, praying he would wake up. She stayed there until they found her weeping by his side. She struggled, wanting to stay with him forever. They tried to calm her down, but they were called away to tend to the rest of the injured victims. She returned to his side, and wrapped his arms around her waist. She buried her head in his neck, wishing it wasn't real, that he wasn't dead. She closed her eyes, willing herself to melt into his warm embrace.

He was cold.

She opened her eyes to see a glint of metal underneath some piece of garbage. Without moving out of his arms, she scooped it into her hand. She looked at him lovingly, knowing it would be a matter of seconds before they would be reunited again.

When they came back down, they found two bodies lying intertwined on the cold floor.

She died because she couldn't live without him.

The surgeons knelt by their grave. They gave them one grave, because they were one. One body, one soul, one heart, one love. None of them concealed how they felt as they placed flowers on the cool earth above where they were laid. Tears openly streamed down every one of their faces as they slowly walked away, leaving the cross in their wake.
