not a return to full time writing, just a drabble request that caught my fancy. :D
Character/s: Petunia/Vernon
Prompt: "I'm pregnant."
Extra Notes: Like them to be young, pretty please.
The stick has turned entirely the wrong colour.
It wasn't supposed to happen like this, she cries, laying her head against the cool counter-top. It's too early, but she feels morning-sick already.
They had a plan. They were supposed to date for a year or so, then get married at the country club, then after another year or so, have a child. But it's all backwards now.
She and Vernon get married quickly, out of necessity, instead of love like she had deluded herself earlier. Just before she starts to show.
Their timing is impeccable- six months after the wedding, Dudley is born. And fortunately for them, when you have money, people are much more inclined to believe that a child is premature than to believe that anything in your life did not go exactly to plan.
Only Lily knows the truth, and she's sworn to secrecy. As sworn as a simple glance across a room and a nod of understanding can convey. She can't read Lily's expression like she used to be able to, but somehow she gets the feeling that Lily is telling her, you could have been more than this.
But how could Lily possibly have any room to judge her? She burns out the disappointment with the searing scent of disinfectant (a scent that overpowers all the grime.)
