Because everyone seems so pissed with what River had done and the Doctor marrying her, that they miss her actual words. Yes, she did it for selfish purposes, but she learns from her mistake, and gives the Doctor a very important gift in doing so.

The marriage wasn't important.

She had told him herself that she had saved him for herself, as selfish as that was. But she refused to let him die without knowing.

And she had told him that too.

He had needed to know how much good he had done. How many people cared. How many loved him.

No, the marriage was most definitely not the most important thing that day to happen.

Though it had made her happy.
