Blinding Fury

She wrapped her shawl tighter around her slender frame as walked, clinging to any semblance of warmth that remained as the cool October air surrounded her. The sky was pink and blue and purple as the sun began to set. The sky was clear and in the distance she could hear the faint hooting of an owl as she approached the grave.

She fell to her knees before the tombstone. Her fingers traced over the letters of his name as the memories came flooding back; painful, beautiful, moments she had spent with him. She could see him, hazel eyes, tanned skin, shaggy ebony hair. She could hear his voice, his whispers, "I love you."

"I love you too, Regulus." She felt dizzy with grief and weariness. It was hard to pretend she didn't care. It was painful to pretend that the sound of his name did not cause her agony. It was agonizing to hide the despair she still felt. She had lost him. She had warned him. She had begged him not to go and now he was gone.

Sybil rested her head against the cool marble as the tears began to fall.

"You'll always be my biggest could-have-been."
