The Royal Inheritance

"MOM!" Henry cried, running into the Charmings' apartment. "Help!"
"What's happening?" Emma asked as she protectively pulled her son close to her.
"It's mom. Regina, I mean. She, she . . ."
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Curious and slightly worried, Snow White and David were moving closer now.
"She's trying to make me learn how to dance!"
Emma frowned. "Is that it? You almost gave me a heart attack, kid!"
"You have to help. Say that there was an emergency or something. Please."
"You know, Regina's right," Snow sighed. Henry looked at her incredulously. "I'm honestly surprised she hasn't taught you already. It's one of those things all royals are required to learn."
"Yeah, well, we're in Storybrooke now," Emma countered. "I don't think we'll have much use for dancing."
"Oh, I don't know about that. Snow and I were thinking of hosting a ball. You know, lighten everyone's spirits."
"A ball."
"Yes, I think it's a delightful idea."
"A ball." Emma looked around. "Where would you even have a ball here?"
Snow shrugged. "The town square? Wherever we can find a good spot."
"I don't know if you noticed, but we're a bit busy right now."
They shrugged. "Still, it's an important skill to have."
"Like, we're talking ballroom dancing?"
"Of course! There are at least three dances that everyone that might ever attend a royal banquet must know."
"And, of course, since you are the inheritors of two separate kingdoms conbined, you'll have to know the court dance for each."
"Regina is from a separate royal line as well, so she'll most likely teach you the court dance from her kingdom."
"The Montagues are our neighbours and hugest trading partners, so it's only polite that-,"
"Woah." Emma put her hand up in a 'stop' motion. "You guys do realize that none of these kingdoms exist anymore, right?"
"Well, what if the people decide that they want to hold a ball and their daughter asks Henry to dance? We wouldn't want to seem disrespectful."
"Why on earth would they just randomly decide to hold a ball?"
"Weddings, births, successful quests, good harvests,"
"Sounds like a great opportunity for the bad guys to show up and ruin everything to me."
"You know, technically, you're our heir, too."
Emma quickly saw where this was going and decided now would be a good time to flee. "I just remembered- something at the station-,"
"That's right, you are royalty."
Emma stood up and almost made it. Almost.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, villains and heroes, is how Emma Swan ended up taking dance lessons from her step-grandmother and the co-mother of her child.
That is also the story of why Emma grounded Henry for a week.
