Chapter I

Decisions and Mind-reading

Gālon was not, in any sense of the word, a normal 16 year-old boy. He was so abnormal in fact, that he did not live on the world we call Earth (although he was human).

At the moment, I was at HQ, talking to Cipher and trying to plan my next adventure.

"So, we're here in this small pocket in the gamma quadrant," Cipher said, flattening a map of the universe and multiple other layers of space and time. Cipher always told me where we were in the "human" universe, as we called it, even though HQ never moved.

"Even though it doesn't matter," Cipher added, as he always did. I looked up at Cipher from the map; he wasn't human, he was part of an almost extinct race of super intelligent beings. He is also the lead scriptwriter for the DWs; there is also Clank, the engineer, Ida, the wardrobe and weapons expert, and also Grunt and Longshot, who were the part of a special task team. Also there was another creature who accompanied them, always cloaked in black, I don't even know the guy's name (if he is a guy). I, Gālon, was the leader of them, they all looked up to me, and I relied solely on them to keep me alive. I was also a firebender and, although I'd rather not be, a metalbender too.

"Gālon, Sir?" Cipher had looked up from the map too, and had something like a frown on his bird-like face.

"It's nothing, Cipher, where is the newest calamity?" I said shaken out of my reverie.

"Well, sir, there is still the matter of the Avatar conquest, the one which you have been neglecting since its beginning. Other than that, there are a few small wars going on on apocalyptic Earth #7." Cipher said rather boredly.

"Ah, yes, apocalyptic Earth #7 (there are many different Earths you see, each with its own unique pattern of destruction) it's been a while since I was there, I thought it was doing better, I'll send Grunt in for that. Now about the Avatar conquest-" my voice trailed off towards the end of my sentence and I stood up. This decision was only being put off because of the fact that the avatar had been frozen in an iceberg 100 years (their years anyway, time at HQ doesn't exist, that's why I'm still only sixteen).

"You know sir, the avatar is about to be unfrozen. Maybe it would be best if you joined the effort now, instead of later?" Cipher had been nagging me about this for a long time, even if time didn't exist here.

"Well, maybe, but – alright fine, but I'm not joining in immediately, I need a good time for my integration into the team to be flawless. Cipher, wake up the crew, I'm going back to my homeland." With that, I marched straight out of the room, and into,

"Clank! I'm sorry, I didn't see you there," I said, helping the small man up. Clank was a small, white bearded man who still wore his old aviator's cap, even though it now bore many odd gizmos and lenses. He was the team's engineer, churning out inter-dimensional marvels twice a week.

"No, no, it's alright. At least you didn't break what I was about to show you," Clank replied, holding out a small object that looked like the cap of a tooth.

"What is it?" I asked as I took the object for closer inspection.

"That, sir, is an inter-dimensional transceiver. The last one I built could only carry sound through the seven physical dimensions, but this one can tune in anywhere. It's placed in the back cuspid tooth and reads the vibrations from your speech. And here's the home console," Clank held up the other thing he had in his hands. It was a small box, about the size of a toaster, with several switches and a color video screen.

"Why does it have a monitor if this goes in my mouth?" I asked, not exactly sure if I wanted to hear it.

"Actually sir, it also attaches to nerve endings in the tooth, allowing direct access to your visual cortex. Actually, we could also see your heart rate, your exact thoughts at the moment, and surprisingly, your bladder control." Clank replied happily, getting more excited just at the thought of it.

"So, you pretty much will know exactly what's going on with me the entire time I'm gone?" I was a little agitated at the thought of no privacy, but I was also glad my friends were there if I needed any help.

"Yes sir." Clank replied, happier still that I was getting the picture so well.

"Well Clank, I thought that after a whole week's worth of effort, you could've come up with something a little better than this. I mean inter-dimensional mind reading, puh-leeze." I was now about as happy as Clank was when he first started talking, but at least I was joking.

"Now, go put that away and meet me and the others in the meeting hall. I've got a new mission."

Yea, I know it still isn't avatar fanfic really, but it will be, very much so.

I made sure I was the last one to the meeting hall, making sure I wouldn't have to wait for anyone. When I entered, they all stood, while I checked them off mentally. There was Clank on my left, with Ida behind him. Then there was Grunt and Longshot, with "Guy", and lastly, Cipher.

"I called this meeting to discuss preparations for my next mission, I'm going back home." I kept my voice calm, even though I knew it was a big decision.

"Cipher, you First. I'm going to need a draft of my character and where I'll be teleporting. Clank, you get that information and set up the door for departure, also, get that mind-reading tooth cap ready. Ida, I'm going to need a costume, something lightweight for travel, and I'd like a sword. Grunt, after you take care of business on #7, you'll be in charge while I'm gone. Any questions?" I looked expectantly around at everyone.

"Sir, seeing as this is your homeworld, I think you and I should work together to design your character." Cipher said.

"Alright, anyone else? No, well then, let's go people, come on!" with that, the entire room rose and left through their respective doors. I followed Cipher back to his workroom. We stayed in there for hours, bickering over small traits and quirks, we had to be careful, if we didn't define my character perfectly then I wouldn't transition into the world properly.

Finally, we came to a decision. I was to keep my name; I was the son of an important Fire Nation general, and was abandoned. I was going to teleport to the camp of the firebending master Jeong Jeong, with whom I had been living with for the past year. We already had the script for the avatar world from the "original" Earth (named because it was the first to call itself that), so we knew the avatar would come to me eventually.

I was going as myself, and it was time to finish my life story.

After Cipher had given the coordinates for my departure to Clank, I headed down to Ida's workroom to get a look at what I was going to be wearing. When I walked in Ida was at her computer processing different types of cloth.

"So, do you have a draft for me?" I was always apprehensive about my clothes because Ida was way too stubborn to change my clothes because, say it was the wrong color, or vulnerable to sniper fire.

"Actually, I do." Ida replied, sarcastically, knowing that I would ask. She didn't immediately leave what she was doing before she rolled herself over to another computer.

"Here it is, all I have to do is get the fabric right." She said, bored. I looked; it wasn't bad, I had a plain brown tunic and loose reddish pants. There were various bits of armor on my left side, probably showing the internal conflict for my character. I noticed that my left arm was uncovered,

How many times do I have to tell her! I thought angrily. As though she read my mind, Ida said,

"You know, nobody really cares that your arm's made out of metal." Good ol' Ida, always completely honest, however brutal.

"I know," was all I managed to say, looking down at my left arm. It was organically bonded with mercury; it was what gave me the power to bend metal, as well as fire. It was also what gave me nightmares and put everyone around me in danger if I lost control. It was odd though; the metal always seemed eerily beautiful, like another mind attached to my own.

"It doesn't matter; it doesn't give a good impression of me. It isn't a part of me," I said quietly, trying to convince myself as much as her.

"Please, cover it," I did my best to remain calm, although I didn't feel it. Ida paused for a moment before agreeing and making the left sleeve longer.

"That looks good; I'll need it ready in an hour." I tried to keep the conversation professional, not betraying any hint of weakness.

"I'll have it ready by then, sir." Ida said as I turned to leave. What she said made me pause for a second. Of all the members of the DWs, Ida was the only one who never called me sir. I smiled, knowing why she showed the respect.

I left, turning to go to Clank's workroom, but then I realized he was probably in the switch room. I entered, simultaneously seeing Clank at the end of the room and still marveling at the amount of switches placed on the wall. Each switch had a small screen and a letter and number on it, showing where you would be headed if you hit that switch and where it was located in the room. Clank was working on one at the far end of the room,

"Sir! I'm almost done, could you hit the switch HA, 11?" he called. I found the switch and pulled it, immediately the entire rest of the room's switches screens changed, showing new places within the switch I just pulled.

"Ah, there we go," said Clank, replacing the cover for the switch on which he was working.

"Sir, whenever you're ready, you can go." Clank said, wiping his hands on a towel.

"I'm almost ready, I just need my suit." I said, referring to Ida's costume for me.

"But sir, you're already wearing it." Clank pointed at my torso and I looked down. Indeed, I had been changed while I was talking, and had not noticed it.

"Okay then, I guess I'm ready. Tell Cipher to get on the communication device, I want to make sure it works." Clank left, handing me the tooth-like receiver as he did. A few moments after I put it in, I heard Cipher's voice in my head. I almost fell over in shock, why did I never ask how I would hear him?

Hello sir, can you hear me? Cipher "said".

"I guess I can. Clank are you there?" I replied, still shocked.

Yes sir, I'm here. What do you need?

"I need you back here for the switches." I said impatiently.

Oh, right, I'll be right there.

Clank came in quickly and hurried over to the switches. He pulled a series of them and then went to the end of the hall, where a heavy iron door was securely bolted.

"Alright sir, whenever you're ready." I headed towards the door, while Clank unbolted it. I stepped inside the small room, much like an elevator. Clank closed the door and I heard Cipher's voice,

Until your mission is complete sir, goodbye.

"See you later Cipher," I said. There was a violent shudder as wheels started grinding, and I knew I was no longer at HQ.

You have arrived, Cipher commented, as soon as the room stopped rumbling.

"Finally," I said sarcastically, as though the obvious stop was not apparent. I opened the door, into a low-lit wilderness scene. I turned around to watch the door disappear, then saw smoke in the distance. I walked towards it, and my hopes went along with me.

sorry, i just got lazy and decided not to make Galon's departure a big deal. Please keep R&R-ing, especially R-ing (ha, figure out which one i meant)
