The first time Lucretia Black felt attraction to a woman, she was getting lessons from Papa on the Hogwarts Founders. Of course, seven year old Lucretia did not know that what she was feeling was attraction. Admiration, yes. Obsession, yes. But what does a seven-year-old know of attraction?
Little LuLu tore the Rowena Ravenclaw's picture out of her lesson book and carried it with her everywhere. She would take Rowena on all of her adventures and tell her Mama and Papa how she wanted to be just like her when she grew up. Papa vigorously attempted to teach his poor, confused child to admire women with more appropriate qualities - but to no avail.
By the time LuLu was ten, she had decided that she didn't want to be like Rowena anymore, to her papa's relief. Papa bought her a new pair of riding boots as a reward. (She hid Rowena's picture in her boots and vowed to marry her one day.)
Halfway through her thirteenth year, a runaway hex in the Slytherin common room shaved LuLu's hair clean off. It grew back slowly, and LuLu loved short hair so much she kept cutting it.
When LuLu was fifteen, she kissed Muriel Prewett on a dare (and she liked it).
The week before graduation (and the engagement), Papa found the ring she had bought. "You are a woman, Lucretia," he told her furiously. "It's time you started acting like one. Women do not marry women." So he married her to Muriel's brother Ignatius.
Rowena's picture was replaced by Muriel's, and if Ignatius ever caught his wife with her mouth on his sister's, he never said a word.
Rowena Ravenclaw, for Russian Roulette.
