Set up: During a large banquet, a witch tries to kill Arthur; Merlin kills the evil doer and is now standing over Arthur protectively. And… action.

"Merlin," Arthur tries to focus blearily at the young man standing over him.

"Arthur," Merlin's breathing is still erratic as he continues to stare at the spot some big bad evil witch had just been standing in.

"Guards!" Uther's voice suddenly rings out over the shocked hall.

Arthur doesn't hesitate as he jumps up and grabs Merlin's wrist, the pair of them sprinting from the Great Hall.

"Cover us," Arthur shouts to his knights. Glancing over his shoulder, Arthur notices happily that they didn't even have to be told - they had already lept into action.

Arthur and Merlin don't stop running until they reach the stables.

"You have to ride for the border," Arthur says as he quickly bridled his fastest horse. As he reached for the saddle, Merlin grabbed his arm and asked,

"Why are you doing this?"

"What makes you think I want to let my father kill you?" Arthur grinned as he quickly tightened the girth. "I want that pleasure all for myself."

Merlin rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath as he swung into the saddle.

"Wait," Arthur grabbed Merlin by his ever-present neckerchief and jerked him down into a searing kiss.

Merlin groaned into it, tightening his fingers in the hair at the nape of Arthur's neck.

"I'm going to find you," Arthur's voice was a snarl, "and you are going to explain yourself."

"I look forward to it," Merlin smiled as he and Arthur shared one last desperate kiss.

Merlin dug his heels into his horse, spurring the creature into a gallop straight out of the stable and – with a flash of gold in his eyes and a whispered incantation that blew the gates open – off into the forests.

I'm going to mark this as complete, however if I get enough reviewers asking for a sequel than I'll tack on another chapter.
