Journal Entry for Demon Slayer Quest
My mentor suggested that I speak with Grufeld Bach in the Saradomin Church in Varrock. I was in Lumbridge at the time, having just finished spinning wool with two of my friends, so the trek north was a short one. Varrock's castle seemed a little more guarded than Lumbridge's, but it was still a quiet and peaceful village. When I arrived at the church, Grufeld appeared to be waiting for me, or anyone else who could help him out. Grufeld explained to me that he was chasing a fugitive named Denath, who is a Zamorakian extremist. He had stolen a book, an old tome of demonology that was once used to banish an ancient and powerful demon named Delrith, back to the demonic plane. Denath stole the tome with the purpose of using his magic skills to bring Delrith back to this plane. Delrith is a very powerful magician, and can only be harmed with the Silverlight sword, a holy sword that can be found underneath the Saradominist church in Varrock.
While I made my way to the church, my new friend Grufeld goes off to search for Denath. When I arrived at the crypt beneath the church, I met three spirits that watch over Silverlight. In order to claim the sword, I must first pass their three trials. In the Trial of the Body, I must defeat a band of skeleton fighters with my magic staff, and collect their bones. The skeletons prove no match for the weapon that I retrieved during the Blood Pact quest. For the Trial of the Faith, I must walk across a large gap that appears to have no flooring. I must trust the spirit's directions of which way to go. By following his every instruction, I slowly and nervously made my way across the gap, landing safely at the other end. Relieved, I was able to walk back across the gap without worrying about falling to my untimely death. In the Trial of the Mind, I the spirit quizzed me about my quest, to ensure that I was following noble causes and was not on a treasure hunt for the sword. Once I passed all three trials, the sword was mine for the taking!
I returned to Grufeld with Silverlight, and by that time he had located Denath, beneath the Temple of Zamorack in Varrock. It comes as no surprise he is located there. After all, he is a Zamorakian extremist trying to summon a demon back from the demonic plane. Where else would he try to attempt such a task? I am starting to get the feeling that Grufeld is not an equal partner in this quest, but is just using me for my incredible skills and strength. Either way, the two of us go to Denath to try to stop him. However, we are too late! Denath has already summoned Delrith, and now we need to defeat him to stay alive and save the town. With Grufeld's help (and it wasn't much help, more like the type of help that Scoobie and Shaggy provide to the others while solving a mystery) and Silverlight's magical powers, we are able to defeat the demon while taking on very little damage. Once the demon is defeated, the crypt under the church starts to fall apart, and we escape it just before it collapses.
For my troubles, I get to keep the Silverlight sword, the town avoids facing a demon destroying them, and Grufeld learns a valuable lesson in the importance of securing dangerous artifacts that can summon demons.
