Now, here is my first fanfiction. It isn't supposed to be mean or bashing, it's actually not to be taken as serious advice, because I honestly have no idea what possessed me to write this. Also, you might care to read the genre… :D Umbridge is also a bit OOC. Enjoy, I don't own Harry Potter!
Umbridge's Tips for a Good Fanfiction
Hello, my name is Dolores Jane Umbridge, and I work for the Ministry of Magic… But, lately, I have been reading owls and discovering… NO ONE USES PROPER SPELLING AND GRAMMAR ANYMORE… I'm sorry, there's no need to shout. But really, folks, this is why we make you use Spelling and Grammar Quills! Anyways, I really think you should all just hear me out (I know most of you are still mad because what I did to that brat Harry Potter).
My first tip is that please, use proper spelling and grammar, Muggles have this thing called spell check and grammar check. If any Muggle is reading this, please use those when writing, unless it's supposed to be improper. Capitalization, people!
My second is that flaming and bashing aren't right! Okay, I sound like a hypocrite. But truly, please try to contact the author if something is truly bothering you. Constructive criticism is a good thing; don't take it for granted.
Use proper punctuation, although I think this fits in with the first tip.
Oh yes, please attempt to make author's notes no longer than a third of your story. It's just so the reader doesn't have to scroll through pages and pages of author's notes.
Please keep Mary-Sues to a minimum; I really can't stand those pretty little girls running around shouting all-powerful curses and such. Perfection is a good thing, but unfortunately, as I have learned, no one is perfect.
Thank you for your time, I really hope I was helpful.
Please review with your constructive criticism! If there are any problems, don't hesitate to PM me! If it's really horrible, I might take it down, please tell me how I can make it better! Thank you!
