Hi guys, so I know I should probably be working on Three Days in the Infirmary (the next chapter will be up soon, I promise!), but I got this back from my English teacher and thought "Hey, why not put this on Fanfiction?" Voila. You're welcome for those feels.
Boy, this town gave me chills at night. Not just from the cold. Shadows seemed stare into me, harboring memories of sin and evil. I sure wasn't a pansy, but I could imagine the belt in my father's hand. A shiver ran down my spine. Shaking off the image, I saw that Pony and I were nearing the park. I could see the bright reflection of the moon in the still water of the fountain. I looked over at Ponyboy. He was rubbing his arms in an attempt to keep warm.
"Ain't you about to freeze to death, Pony?"
"You ain't a woofin," he replied, which I figured was a good enough answer. I considered offering my jacket to him, but thought better. He was already having trouble with his brothers, and wouldn't appreciate the brotherly gesture.
He looked like he would go on but stopped abruptly. His expression I knew all too well. I often wore it.
Slowly, I looked round. And there it was. The blue mustang. The gold rings still gleamed in my memory. My face and arms stung from the blows in the back of my mind.
I swore under my breath. Remembering Cherry and Marcia, it came to me that we'd really screwed up. We picked up their girls, and they were catching up to us, no doubt ready to give up a real good beating. But it had to be them. Just my luck.
I automatically reached for my switchblade, but I knew we didn't have much of a chance. They outnumbered us five to two. But I knew Pony. He wouldn't go down without a fight, especially on greaser turf.
Standing there, with my face in fake a non-committal expression, I felt trapped. The only thing I could do was back up into the fountain. It was cold to the touch.
I heard Pony throw some insults at the Socs, but I didn't say much. I tried to keep sharp, however. That drunk smell the Socs were reeking of – it made me want to gag.
My impulses woke up when they grabbed Pony. My switch blade was already in my hand. I flicked it open.
There sure is a lot of blood in people.
