It Wasn't His

It wasn't his to have, it was Jack's it had always been Jack's. Jack's team, Jack's genes, Jack's everything. This was included with that list; at least he counted them in it. Who could miss the sparks between them, the increased temperature when they were close? He hadn't missed it, which is what made this all the more harder to come to terms with. Jack had left, he had left them all, and more importantly he had left her, so she left. They were all leaving, they were done. Then Mitchell came. He didn't want to create his own team, he wanted them and that included her. Then Vala came, it seemed with one passing, everyone was coming. Rushing to them and changing everything. They were supposed to be done, but they weren't, they knew it was too good to be true. So they returned, even she did.

He didn't think he would ever fully understand how things ended up like this, how what was once Jack's had suddenly become his. His team, his genes, his everything, sure Mitchell commanded the team, but it was essentially his, even Mitchell knew that. So how had everything changed? How had they gotten here? To this point where everything that was is now gone, new alliances had been formed, new patterns made and different coffee too. But it still hadn't changed the fact that she was seen as Jack's, even now it's hard to believe that she wasn't, that she never had been. It was hard to hear Jack tell him, tell him that she was never his but that she had always been his. He rattled it all off, he had it down to the very point in which Jack himself had realised. So why hadn't he?

His fingers danced softly on the cream silk beside him, its warmth never ceasing to amaze him. A small moan escaped into the darkness. His attention was drawn to the glinting metal on the sheet near him, tracing its outline he remembered. Oh how he remembered. Standing there, dumbfounded by this vision, mumbling these words and realising that she was truly his. Jack had been there, he had stood beside him, giving him the extra strength he needed to complete the mission. Guilt forming slightly when he realised the strength is must have taken Jack to stand there, giving what was never truly his. The cream silk beside him moved, circling him, drawing him, memorising him with a smile.

'Daniel?' she whispered.

'Yes?' he couldn't help but grin.

'I love you,' she sighed, burying herself into his embrace.

'I love you too Sam, always have,' he breathed a sigh of relief, she was his.
